(5,255 posts)I don't even know who this is or what's happening. It's so deeply embarrassing and shameful for the country.

(1,257 posts)I have had to turn off the news while periodically checking in. Will Georgia voters step up and help save the democracy?

(11,736 posts)This is the country that gave the world the Scopes Monkey Trial. This is the country that invented Professional Wrestling (not real wrestling, the jump of the turnbuckle, hit you with a metal chair type. This is the country that invented the Reality Show. The country that invented Twinkies THEN deep fried them.
People in this country PRIDE themselves on their ignorance. Anti-intellectualism is a thing here, a big thing.

(1,257 posts)There is a real cultural divide.

(11,736 posts)I do not hang around with people like that either. My wife and I often remind each other that there is definitely a cultural and educational divide.

(11,736 posts)The Dunning-Kruger cognitive bias is very apt for our situation. The more I learn, the more I find that I don't know. The world is complicated and there is a lot of information out there. Conversely, people who are not as informed or curious, often are more sure of what they know (and are very wrong about). My wife was talking about this the other day. Some right winger was talking about how "masks don't work" and she cited a bunch of studies that showed the effectiveness of masks against spreading the coronavirus. The guy simply said, "I disagree", and thought he had won the argument. Who cares if you disagree or not, your disagreement is irrelevant! The facts are the facts, if you can produce studies, or at least one study, that shows that masks have no substantial protective qualities, then you can disagree, but as has been said, people think that their opinions have the same weight as our facts and evidence.

(9,263 posts)the moment is approaching and a REAL threat to consider. His appearance in Georgia before the runoff will be his last BIG center stage event and if he is going to do this, this would be the last time to do so, The official Electoral College vote is in Congress on Jan 6th, same day as the Georgia runoff vote
They are following a plan thats been in place for over a year:
- weaponize the USPS
- defang US law enforcement
- replace DOD personell
- install wall around whitehouse
I sure as fuck hope I am wrong about trump's last grasp move.

(8,731 posts)We all know it, but let it ride. Every news outlet needs to show non stop loops of Fox and Trump claiming fraud virus, promoting FreeDumb, no masks and no distancing. Freedom to speak, (lie) freedom to rebroadcast every lie beside the death counts. Lou Dobbs, Hannity et al are enemies of democracy, lie as easily as non Covid victims breathe. 24/7 lie broadcasting determine to destroy our country need heavy exposure and outing.

(11,736 posts)Precisely why they have this fool in a "hearing" with the State legislature and not a court of law. You can get away with some BS in a hearing and face maybe minor sanction. In an actual legal courtroom, this woman would have been berated and possibly held for contempt.
