General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsOkay, I'll say it: I have no problem with Trump going on a firing-spree in the government.
Why?
Because then Biden can go on a firing-spree in government as well.
Fire anybody who entered DoD, DoJ and what not during Trump's administration.
Anybody.
Starting with the people Trump brought into government between election-day and inauguration.
And replace them with Democrats.
Let the Republicans howl in fake outrage:
1. Republicans have no principles to begin with, so their counter-arguments don't carry any moral/ethical gravity anyways.
2. No matter what the Republicans are complaining about that Biden is doing, the Biden-administration can just turn around and pull out an example how Trump was worse.
(I STRONGLY believe that we will very quickly (summer 2021) come to a point in the Biden-administration where the Republicans ask the Democrats to stop talking about the Trump-administration.)

We need a government that works, especially now.

(16,670 posts)McConnell has already labeled the Democrats as breaking rules, as governing and negotiating in ill will. That's what he cites as an excuse for his own rule-breaking, his own ill will.
And people are not irreplacable: For any Republican you can find a Democrat who is as good at the job.
There is no reason whatsoever to give Republicans any leeway, any slack:
1. Republican voters won't care about it anyways if Biden goes bipartisan.
2. Republicans won't care about it anyways if Biden goes bipartisan.
3. On a technical, talent-based level any Democrat will be as good as any Republican.

(17,506 posts)schedule than garden variety civil servants like I was. OPM should be able to easily identify them via personnel actions even if they've managed to burrow in. Nothing happens in the federal gov't without a corresponding personnel action.

(17,377 posts)federal political appointees being terminated and replaced by the incoming administration, especially when it involves a party change. ... Some do and have burrowed in, but these can and will be uncovered as you say. Bidens agency chiefs will need to be willing to do that work however. I dont see Biden threatening those who dont with their own firing which is classic tRump process, so maybe some will survive. They will nevertheless be effectively neutered by the power structure under the Biden admin regardless.

(8,222 posts)The Schedule Cs and the political appointees will all be asked to resign by January 20 and those who dont will be terminated. They dont have Civil Service protection like we do. As for firing everyone who came in to the Government during that time, you really dont want us going back down the road to the spoils system.
Once we get the politicals out, well be fine.

(17,506 posts)There might be some who are converted to the new schedule F, but they can be fired.
COL Mustard
(8,222 posts)I really hope that gets undone, and quickly in the new administration. Otherwise, we're heading back to the spoils system.

(17,506 posts)you were before you were converted. In fact, each agency's HR dept is going to know who was converted from what previous status. It would be easy enough to send out a directive that everyone is converted back once the EO is cancelled.

(1,406 posts)Outgoing administrations have a way of hiding their operatives in lower but influential levels within the government. First Biden needs to start with the OPM where the personnel policies are generated and enforced. Processing of all kinds of benefits for Feds and others takes place there. Between Social Security Admin and the OPM fully on third of the economic situation in the US is at stake.
Faithful Civil Servants know where the bodies lie. Engage them to point out where. They know.
I just heard from a friend who is employed by a major Fed biomedical research agency that at the end of the month there will be sweeping retirements by long-term, dedicated civil employs who had put in plans to retire because of what is happening within their agency at the hands of Trump appointees and hires. They are sick of it. One way to find out what is going on and where is to schedule exit interviews from these people. It can be done voluntarily before or even after they officially retire.
In fact, it may be a good idea for the Bien/Harrise admin hold several non-public interviews with career civil servants who left their government jobs under duress and disgust within the past two years. This can be done agency by agency under new agency management. It can be voluntary with a call to arms to former employees. OPM is the ticket for doing this. Anyone here who has an in with any of the influential incoming Biden team, please pass this suggestion on to them.

(4,094 posts)I would have preferred for the buffoon to do one noble thing in his life and not go in a rampage hurting the country. I have to think that Putin is guiding him, and many republicans with their little flags on their lapels are wittingly carrying out the orders. They are all traitors, I cannot describe them any other way.
The twin towers took a eleven (11) years to build, but it only took one day to bring them down.
I just hope that people inside, who are patriots, are taking notice of the destruction these traitors are perpetrating, information that may help the reconstruction process, and to also use that it to prosecute the SOBs.
Belated welcome to DU, Escurumbele.

(8,222 posts)I've seen it at the change of other administrations. Sometimes it's not pretty. An Assistant Secretary who has asked to be held over because he cares about the mission gets told at 2:00 that he has to be out by 5:00, and turn in your ID card and parking permit on the way out.
