(9,913 posts)truly honest media. WE DO NOT. We have media cherry-picked by the 1% that gets through to 100% of the people.
crickets
(26,168 posts)and certain elements of media keep trying very hard to make this Nancy Pelosi's fault. There is no substantive help on a state and local level from Repub plans, and that is where the help is most needed. Employees, especially ones involved in meat processing and packing, are suffering and need more protection, but Mitch wants corporate immunity most of all. If these simple points were made clearly, over and over, everybody would understand what's really going on.

(11,111 posts)It's a story. Like Carlin used to say(paraphrase) "The American Dream is just that. A dream"
No wonder we have the highest number of cases and deaths in the world. We force our own people out to work to survive. It's sickening. Literally.

(13,538 posts)TWELVE month moratorium on evictions? So someone gets to live in my property for a YEAR without paying? And no mention of the lost rent revenue? How am I supposed to pay my mortgage, insurance, taxes, repairs, salaries?

(8,752 posts)they also provide financial aid to landlords to make it up.

(1,249 posts)This past Spring my tenant stopped paying rent and wouldn't respond to letters, texts, or phone calls. My attorney explained that there was nothing I could do to evict him during this COVID crisis.
Fortunately, the lease ended in August and he was gone by the time I was able to inspect the apartment. Due to damages to the several interior doors (punch and kick holes) and ruined carpets, I needed to spent $6000 to make that place livable for the next tenants.
So, I'm out $6000 plus the loss of 6 months rent. And no, the insurance company wouldn't reimburse me for damages.

(13,538 posts)Mine cost me about 4000. Lucky for me it was "only" nasty without much damage.
I've learned that evictions can still be done, just not for non payment of rent. Violating their lease may get you a judgement. Sale of the property; new owner has the right to occupy. "Sell" it to someone you trust to give it back after you get rid of the person. Thats what I did. Because my tenant had nothing related to Covid preventing her from paying. As soon as the initial moratorium was announced, she quit paying. Still worked her job. Bought a car, since she didnt worry about rent!
You could use "failure to respond", since they wouldnt answer you. And as usual, it also depends on where you are and who the judge is. Even though the law is the same you can get two different decisions from two different judges.
Calculating
(3,000 posts)It's not fair to ban evictions without also compensating landlords. The current eviction moratorium basically just tells landlords to go screw themselves.

(40,915 posts)Moscow Mitch the lawyer and Christian charity.
.
One afternoon, a wealthy lawyer was riding in the back of his limousine when he saw two pathetic-looking men by the side of the road, eating grass. He ordered his driver to stop and got out to investigate. He asked the men, "Why are you eating grass?"
"We don't have no money for food," the first man replied.
"Then you must come with me to my house," insisted the lawyer.
"But, sir, I got a wife and three kids here," said the man.
"Bring them along!" replied the lawyer.
The second man exclaimed, "I got a wife and six kids!"
"Bring them as well!", the lawyer proclaimed as he headed back to his limo.
They all climbed into the car, and once underway, one of the men expresses, "Sir, you are too kind. Thank you for taking all of us with you."
The lawyer replied, "I'm most happy to do it. You'll love my place. The grass is almost a foot tall."

...2020 is an important election year in the Bluegrass State, and Secretary of State Michael Adams announced Tuesday that a record number of Kentuckians are registered to vote.
Kentucky had 3,462,152 registered voters as of Jan. 31, according to Adams.
Democrats have a registration advantage over Republicans in Kentucky, according to the secretary of state, with 1,678,538 registered Democrats representing just over 48% of the electorate..."
