I cannot believe what I'm hearing out of Georgia.
"Kemp owes his position to Trump."
"I don't know how Trump wants me to vote in Georgia."
And so much more.
Republicans have for good and without even last glance abandoned Republicanism. You know? The principle that the people are the sovereign and that the decisionmakers only serve at their pleasure? That's a republic.
Republicans have abdicated their role as the sovereign, because that's hard: It requires having principles, it requires thinking about what the country needs, it requires carefully selecting politicians who will do what you want them to do.
But it's so much easier to abandon that responsibility and to simple nod along with everything that happens. Who needs stinking facts and pesky principles?
Republicans are so bereft of principles that they don't even care about Republicanism any more. They sold it out.
"Well," you ask. "If Republicans sold out Republicanism, then what did they get in return?"
They got a ruler who exemplifies that it's okay for you to be immoral, that it's okay for you to lie, that "freedom" supposedly means that you get to hurt other people.
And Republicans have chosen THOSE principles over Republicanism. They would rather live a selfish life under a tyrant than exercise their duty as the nation's sovereign and keep their own politicians in check.

(38,567 posts)They always run up the deficit with tax cuts and obscene military spending. Then Democrats have to clean up their messes. Being conservative is for suckers and losers.
They never believed in Republicanism in the first place.
