I think he should hold one and have it scheduled so it runs during the time Biden takes the oath.
And I want Trumpy to have flown there on AF1.
Because at precisely twelve noon, AF1 should push in the brakes and leave Trumpy where ever the hell he is.
Let him walk home, for fucks sake.
The Secret Service guys can leave him standing there at 5 till and get on the plane, or catch commercial flights home. (Edit here, since I didnt make the point clear). The small, post presidency detachment will stay, but all the rest, with all the vehicles should bugger off back home
If I don't get to see him bodily removed from the White House, I want to see AF1 called back to DC without him on it.

(4,466 posts)...if the former president is cuffed at a political rally instead of the incoming president's inauguration? Just sayin'...

(24,876 posts)I'm about to walk out the door to go to work, so I don't have the time to research it, but I understand any ex-president can turn down that protection.

(18,486 posts)He no longer has a Presidential Protective detail with dozens of agents, post standers, Secret Service Uniformed Division protecting the perimeter, magnetometers, presidential limo and motorcade, military communications, etc.
He goes from all of that to 3 or 4 agents and two vehicles. And while his residence will be guarded, he'll no longer be in a protective "bubble" when he's out and about and pretty much any member of his great unwashed MAGA crowd can just wander up to him, which I am sure he will find to be absolutely delightful, given what he actually thinks of those people.

(90,021 posts)And no more rides in the Beast - the super-heavily fortified Presidential limo, or the exalted seat at that exalted Resolute Desk, or the armies of White House aides and other assistants that always populate the White House.
Joe Biden gets all that, as of noon on January 20th, donald. You aint it no more.

(62,536 posts)And entire roads.
He's going to be in for one hell of a whiplash when he says he wants to do a rally or something and they go "well, sir, you need to contact the local police, and arrange something." The the local police go "uh, why are we doing this again?" He'll maybe be able to do one or two but once the local police see how much money his little rally's are costing they are going to push back. It will eat in to his coffers really quickly.

(27,834 posts)I just checked as to who maintains Secret Service protection after a president leaves office. Just the past POTUS, his spouse and any children under the age of 16. So Barron loses his protection in less than 2 years and the other 3 sprogs lose theirs on Jan 20. I imagine if Melania leaves trump*, I'm sure she will lose hers, too.
I think that former POTUS kids should have protection until or through college. Until they are adults and can say piss off and take care of themselves.

I just imagine it would be an assignment from hell, no matter how long they have to look after these miscreants.

(28,269 posts)if outgoing and incoming are in two different places at inauguration time, how does the football get from Cockwomble to Joe? Maybe have two footballs? one active, one inactive, then flip a switch to change them?

(106,212 posts)helicopter ride afterwards - whether he's in Washington or at a superspreader event (there is, indeed, a public health case for dropping all transport support the moment he stops being president; no crew should be forced to risk their health in whatever situation he decides to manufacture. The minimum Secret Service detail are stuck with him, but that goes with the 'prepared to take a bullet' job description).

(24,876 posts)On Air Force One and be left there.
And BTW, the departure on one of the Marine White Tops usually takes the outgoing president to Joint Base Andrews where he is flown home on one of the 747s which will use the call sign SAM 28000 (or the tail number of whichever aircraft does the flight).
FoxNewsSucks
(11,704 posts)outgoing presidents followed tradition, acted mainly like professional adults, attended the inauguration and left from DC.
StarfishSaver
(18,486 posts)The Marine helicopter, fka Marine One, takes them from the Capitol to Andrews where they board the Air Force jet they used during their presidency to take them to their new home. The plane - provided as a courtesy by the new president - is not called AF1 at that point, however, since that is simply the flight control designation of any fixed wing Air Force aircraft carrying the president of the United States and Trump will no longer be president. It is called SAM ("Special Air Mission."
###.
Marine One is the designation of the Marine helicopter when the president is aboard.
When Nixon resigned and left the White House for San Clemente, the plane he was on was Air Force One for the first part of the flight. But while he was in the air, his resignation became effective and Does was sworn in so, at that moment, the plane's call sign changed from Air Force One to Special Air Mission 27000

(24,876 posts)From their own website;
Permanent protectees, such as the President and Vice President, have special agents permanently assigned to them. Temporary protectees, such as presidential and vice presidential candidates/nominees and foreign heads of state, are staffed with special agents on temporary assignment from U.S. Secret Service field offices. Protection for the President and Vice President of the United States is mandatory. All other individuals entitled to Secret Service protection may decline security if they choose.
Im sure he will never decline it, because it makes him feel special

(373 posts)I suspect if not the plane he would land on, then another will be provided but it will not bear the designation AF1 because the man on it is no longer the president. That in an of itself would be a big ego deflator for him . . .not as good as I would like to see but I'm guessing that is what would happen. He would certainly lose whatever motorcade would have driven him once the plane lands wherever he chooses to go.

(2,626 posts)He's not going to stick around to be prosecuted and neither are his children.
What would not surprise me is if he tries to make a deal with the government to get off with no prosecution or investigation in exchange for his agreement that neither he nor his family would ever be heard from again in any form.
Not that I agree with this. I just wouldn't put it past him to try.
