Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsJoe Scarborough just tried to equate Republican MAGATS to peace protestors of the 60's.
In his effort to justify Republican dogma that he helped create and has lead to this anti-democratic Ronald Reagan "Government is the problem." attempt by Republicans to destroy our democracy he has drawn a moral equivalency to the peace protests of the 60'. His ego will not let him admit that he helped sow the seeds of this sedition. No Joe. Stop rationalizing this evil. You were wrong then. We rejected the fascism of your Republican Party then and your efforts to justify them today. And the peace protestors of the 60's were right.

(40,224 posts)He was not equating Trump supporters with peace protestors. I can't fathom how you interpreted his comments this way.

(6,283 posts)I am always amazed at how many Democratic Underground members will feel free to take peoples comments out of context. I predicted this thread would occur, and that Scarborough's comments would be taken out of context. I would ask the OP if he created this thread before or after Scarborough unequivocally stated to Al Sharpton that he is not equating the two scenarios, and after explaining what he meant, the Reverend Al agreed with his assessment.
They do the same thing with Bill Maher all the time, quickly forgetting there are clips of Bill Maher that prove the deception of people trying to smear him.

(293 posts)Scarborough promotes Reagan Republicanism and so called good conservative (aka cover for racism) values every day as if it is a good thing. Well it was and is not. As a Democrat I vehemently object.

(6,283 posts).... to defend Joe Scarborough's fondness for Ronald Reagan. That is common knowledge. Your comment does not address the issue of this thread, and contributes nothing to the debate at hand which concerns Scarborough's comments about the sixties and the Trump faction of today which I argue has been taken out of context. He absolutely did not equate the two, but was commenting on the reaction to both by society at large. I guarantee there were just as many Democrats who were either angry, bewildered, or both at the 60s so-called hippie peace movement as there were republicans. That was Scarborough's point. It was not the right or wrong of the movements, but more about the reaction by the public to both scenarios.

(52,166 posts)The fact is, I am a product of the 1960's Both literally, born in 1967, and figuratively I am an openly gay teacher, sing in a gay men's chorus, and advise a gay straight alliance all in North Carolina. The 1960's are why I can do that. People like Joe are quick to take credit when our country turns corners on issues like this, but the fact is, his side was uniformly wrong on these issues and those 60's radicals he so disdains were uniformly right on them. They are why I get to live my life. They are why we have had our first Black President and will have our first Black and female one. Joe and his ilk didn't lift a finger to accomplish it, but are sure quick to take credit for it while trashing those who brought it about.
