NYPD Cops Cash In on Sex Arrests With Little Evidence, While Black and Brown NYers Pay the Price

https://www.propublica.org/article/nypd-cops-cash-in-on-sex-trade-arrests-with-little-evidence-while-black-and-brown-new-yorkers-pay-the-price

Teams of NYPD officers have descended on minority neighborhoods, leaning into car windows and knocking on apartment doors, trying to get men and women to say the magic words: agreeing to exchange sex for money. These arrests are based almost entirely on the word of cops, who say they are incentivized to round up as many “bodies” as they can.

Some of their targets were selling sex to survive; others were minding their own business. Almost everyone arrested for these crimes in the last four years is nonwhite, a ProPublica data analysis shows: 89% of the 1,800 charged with prostitution; 93% of the 3,000 accused of trying to buy sex.

Of the dozens of cops, lawyers and other experts ProPublica interviewed for this story, not a single one believes arrest figures for patronizing a prostitute accurately reflect the racial makeup of those who buy sex in New York City.

“I know for a fact that white men are the key demographic,” said Meredith Dank, a research professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice who, along with her colleagues, has interviewed more than 600 young people who trade sex in the city. In one study, 65% said their main clients are white.

After 9/11 it was forbidden to criticize them for many years. This just allowed many of their excesses to go unchecked.

The assholes interviewed in the article feeling like they were justified in putting away innocent people because, hey! They needed that sweet overtime because they had mortgage payments. So that made it okay.

Look at the mayoral election. Sarah Iannarone, who wore a dress full of actual Communists a month before the election, came within 5 points of winning. She was winning up until that point, it was a blunder of epic proportions.

But I will look that up, I did not know the Portland history. Thank you.

Not hyperbole either, member of the American Bund, a Nazi funded German-American group.

On Edit: Check out the podcast "Behind the Bastards" especially their recent episodes on the worst police union and Portland.
