Trump administration officials passed when Pfizer offered in late summer to sell the U.S. government additional doses of its Covid-19 vaccine, according to people familiar with the matter. Now Pfizer may not be able provide more of its vaccine to the United States until next June because of its commitments to other countries, they said.

As the administration scrambles to try to purchase more doses of the vaccine, President Trump plans on Tuesday to sign an executive order “to ensure that United States government prioritizes getting the vaccine to American citizens before sending it to other nations,” according to a draft statement and a White House official, though it was not immediately clear what force the president’s executive order would carry.

That included whether it would expand the U.S. supply of doses beyond what is spelled out in existing federal contracts.

The vaccine being produced by Pfizer and its German partner, BioNTech, is a two-dose treatment, meaning that 100 million doses is enough to vaccinate only 50 million Americans. The vaccine is expected to receive authorization for emergency use in the U.S. as soon as this weekend, with another vaccine, developed by Moderna, also likely to be approved for emergency use soon.



Asked if the Trump administration had missed a crucial chance over the summer to snap up more doses for Americans, a spokeswoman for the Department of Health and Human Services said, “We are confident that we will have 100 million doses of Pfizer’s vaccine as agreed to in our contract, and beyond that, we have five other vaccine candidates.”

Nearly all their candidates got vaccine from the pilot system in Andover, or the plant in Kalamazoo.
CNN even did a piece touring the Michigan factory while the early full scale runs were occuring.
They do have manufacturing in Russia (at least one plant) because the government would stop buying their products unless they were made there.
I couldn't find any reference to development work being conducted in countries other than here & Belgium.

They did not want to rely on companies that went it alone are weren't coordinated by Warp Speed.
They assumed Pfizer would be backfill for the WS vaccines that they could take full credit for.
Also, the story is a bit sloppy.
The 50 million doses were based on the maladministration empty promises for 2020 & very early 2021.
It's December, and Pfizer only has 30 million doses. They wouldn't have agreed to selling another 100 million doses before they could accurately forecast capacity.
The 100 million is now based on Pfizer's solidified production forecasts of 84 million doses per months. (When toll manufacturing negotiations are completed they will likely have a higher supply capacity.)

And said that we still have the option of buying any more doses from Pfizer. But he is not a credible person so I wouldn't Bank on it.

It's my understanding that Belgium is making a lot of the vaccine affiliated with Pfizer since the company is affiliated with BioNtech out of Germany. It sounds like Belgium is where Great Britain is getting theirs from.

Remember when a spokesperson for Pfizer said they are not affiliated with warp speed and Trump called her out on it in public and said it was unfortunate but not true and were affiliated with warp speed? Apparently it was Trump who was lying again.

Pfizer says other countries rushed to buy up their supply and we've been bumped back due to the Trump admin dragging their feet.
