I was having problems breathing, had no strength, couldn't taste or smell.
Yup. I tested Covid+, which is weird, because I haven't been out of the house for weeks.

(38,636 posts)Is Paul going out of the house?
I've unfortunately had problems with my spouse and daughter not being scrupulous about masks, so I've had to wear masks in the house.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

(10,599 posts)If you haven't left the house, you still have somehow been in contact with someone who had it, and that contact occurred within the last 2-3 weeks at the most, probably even more recent.
It would be helpful for those of us who have also remained very careful.

(16,879 posts)Is Paul brought it home from work. I can't see any other way it happened.

(16,879 posts)Five to seven days for the results. I'm concerned, because the place he went swabbed the inside of his nostril, not pushed up into the nasal cavity. The nurse in the ER said that was a good test for flu, but not for Covid. When the health department called me yesterday (or day before, I'm kinda lost on days), I mentioned it to her, and she said, "It's the gold standard of tests" and when told what the nurse said she vacillated. So I'm not convinced his test will give an accurate result.

(15,506 posts)... after infection, and then you don't continue to test positive for avery long time, even if you've still got symptoms.
SO - If Paul tests negative it still doesn't necessarily mean he wasn't the source.

(15,107 posts)I don't know who Paul is, but he should probably also get tested.
I am so paranoid about this thing that I wash my hands after I touch any mail or packages. I put on nitrile gloves and wash everything that my husband brings from the grocery store. He wears mask and gloves, a different set for each store, and then they all get washed in hot water with the "covid towels" that I washed and dried the stuff with.
Except for doc appointments, I don't leave the house. And now it turns out that my particular doc's offices are taking it less seriously than the grocery stores. SMDH
I really hope you don't get too sick from it. Take care of yourself and please keep us updated as you are able to.

(816 posts)endure were VERY lax. Dental surgery! The CDC recommends all patients use H202 mouth rinse before the dentist exam, these guys, no.
This office, dental surgery! let anyone/everyone in the waiting room (other dentists I recently had to see, limited the patients into the office one at a time, others HAD to wait outside (yes in the rain, but in their cars, which was fine. The aid would come to the car and get us when it was our turn).
Anyway, some patients HAD NO MASK ON. Also, there were some very old, very frail people in the waiting room.
Some of his staff WORE THEIR MASK UNDER THEIR NOSE). All very casual. No cleaning that I saw.
I was terrified, tried not to touch anything, but you're so vulnerable in these situations. Our area is low in cases (compared to some right now), but is accelerating and I predict that office is going to close.
(it's been two weeks, and no symptoms, but god damn)

(60,182 posts)I had some serious dental surgery in Dallas when I was there in August. That place was so tight and sterile, you would have thought I was having brain surgery with radioactive isotopes being implanted. No virus anywhere, of course.

(2,626 posts)I'm always taken aback to see our mail carrier having conversations with people in the neighborhood while standing only a couple of feet apart and no one wearing masks. I live in a 55+ community and most of the people in the area where I walk almost every day are far above 55.

(16,879 posts)I never leave the house. I work from home, so don't need to. When he goes out, he's always masked. Not sure how it happened. He was tested yesterday, but I'm not confident in the test they did, because it wasn't the stick up the nasal cavity, only a swab inside the nose.
AirmensMom
(15,107 posts)Somewhat, anyway. Husband works from home and I'm retired. He's always masked and gloved and goes out only for groceries and to see our daughter, who lives an hour away and also works from home.
We are the only people we know who wear gloves along with the masks when we go out. It's way too easy to touch your face without realizing it. He keeps several pairs of cotton gloves in his car. Everything goes in the washing machine when he gets home.
Can Paul get a new test? I wish you both well. These are some scary times.

(12,532 posts)I listened to Stephanie Ruhle yesterday and heard she and her family had been down with Covid. She too was surprised because she'd tried so hard to be careful--always wore a mask, washed hands, took social distancing seriously.
Scary times. With cases rising, the risk factor rises as well. For all of us. There's just more virus out there.
Here's hoping for a mild case and a smooth recovery!
Take care.

(146 posts)I have been away from work for a shingles outbreak last month. I intended to return to work this morning, but my plan was disrupted by chills, a slight cough, and some nasal congestion that worsened over the weekend. After speaking with my primary care physician this morning I have an appointment this afternoon to be tested. Since I confined myself to the house during Thanksgiving week so as not to endanger an infant grandson the likelihood of a COVID infection seems remote, but I will cross my fingers just the same.
Good luck. I hope your infection is as mild as my wife's financial conselor. He said it was a strange experience, losing his sense of taste.

I hope Paul gets tested, too. Maybe even more than once if he tests negative, the first time. Take good care of your selves rest, eat well, and focus on positive things, what ever helps you feel better, get over this crazy virus.

(12,115 posts)It's so strange the way some people can be reckless and not get it while others who have been very careful still wind up with it. That's what happened with my daughter. She just got out of quarantine and back to work last Thursday. Her sense of taste and smell have only partially returned. It's odd. For instance she can smell and taste mint and cinnamon but not coffee. So be prepared for weirdness as you heal. Make sure Paul gets tested and please keep us posted.

I wish you the latter.
