Bernie co-chair Nina Turner eyes Fudge seat

By HOLLY OTTERBEIN and ALEX THOMPSON

12/08/2020 10:56 AM EST

Former Ohio state senator and top Bernie Sanders surrogate Nina Turner is contemplating a run for Rep. Marcia Fudge’s seat if Joe Biden brings the Ohio member of Congress into his administration, according to two people close to Turner.

“I have encouraged her to run if the seat is open as that is her congressional district and she would have the immediate support of the national Bernie movement,” said Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.), a fellow former Sanders campaign co-chair. “She’d be a fantastic ally for the movement in Congress.”

Reached by phone, Turner was coy. “Currently, there is no vacancy in the district and if it becomes vacant, things will unfold as they should,” she said.

Fudge has been boosted by the Congressional Black Caucus for a Cabinet role. On Tuesday, close Biden ally and House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn told “Morning Joe” that “it may not be at Agriculture, but she will be nominated to be in the Cabinet.”

I thought she left the Democratic Party after her "People's Party" Convention in August?

For far too long we have watched both corporate-funded political parties pillage and devastate our country, our communities, and our families.

Now it is time for us to ask: What kind of world do we want to build from the ashes of this pandemic and economic depression?

One week after the Democratic and Republican national conventions, people from all walks of life will come together to discuss the state of the nation and plans to form a major new political party in America. A party free of corporate money and influence. A people’s party.
Join us on Sunday, August 30, from 4-7 pm Eastern Time for The People’s Convention.

....with an attitude like that?

The co-chair of Sen. Bernie Sanders’ failed presidential campaign profanely blasted presumed Democratic nominee Joe Biden on Monday, striking a divisive note on behalf of unsatisfied progressive voters.

Nina Turner, assessing the choice of Biden against President Donald Trump in the November presidential election, told The Atlantic: “It’s like saying to somebody, ‘You have a bowl of shit in front of you, and all you’ve got to do is eat half of it instead of the whole thing.’ It’s still shit.”
