To those pushing Sally Yates as AG because you think she'd go after Trump hammer and tong

Consider this:

As a person of high integrity and ethics, she would probably recuse herself from involvement in any investigation related to the person who fired her or matters related to her firing.

In other words, Yates would not be the champion y'all think she'd be.

Lindsey could very likely vote against a fellow Senator in service to his masters. But that won't be enough to stop his confirmation.

I hope people here will look at Doug Jones' record and stop assuming that his calm demeanor means he's weak. He's nothing of the kind. Doug Jones is a badass.

Sally Yates would be a polarizing figure. Given she was fired by the prior administration, her objectivity would be questioned for either AG or Special Counsel. It sucks because she doesn't deserve to be treated in that fashion.

Maybe a second term when the Trump stuff is resolved.

I also think any cases against the Trump cabal would seem less politically driven with Jones as AG. And yes folks on the right will claim that ANY case that involves Trump work is being brought for revenge and retribution.

We got Trump because Reagan/Bush, Bush/Cheney admins weren’t prosecuted. All the minions and underlings who followed unlawful orders need to go to jail, or flip and provide evidence against their superiors.

The new AG can appoint a Special Prosecutor, and the Biden administration can be free to focus on the multiple crises facing the country.

If justice isn’t done at the federal level, then the president is indeed above the law, and the next autocrat the GOP gets into the WH will be the last president America ever has.

Sorry, but I’m not ready to let go of democracy. There is nothing more important than the Rule of Law.

Nothing.

conviction...better to try to help these kids then tilt at windmills. And what exactly would Bush have been prosecuted for? He lied ...I don't think that is indictable. Bush did not give us Trump...Trump gave us Trump. And I am against a special prosecutor...let it go.

That only helps Trump who will claim victim status. I am hoping on some tax charges at the state level. I have news for you, we have created an imperial presidency and going after Trump is unlikely to result in consequences for Trump and it won't stop the next Trump either...Win elections in Congress and take back some of the power that has been give over to the president...starting with requiring a declaration of war for all military actions.

There are so many potential federal charges- obstruction, perjury, election tampering, fraud, SEDITION, and on and on.

Do you think Trump should be immune from prosecution for future, post-presidency federal crimes as well?

Biden has stated clearly that he will not interfere with an independent DOJ if it chooses to investigate and prosecute anyone from the Trump administration.

If such prosecutions or investigations occur, will you be voicing your displeasure to the Biden administration?

The only thing stopping them was that the only proof of crimes was in their imaginations, and that there were not enough sycophants in the DOJ to see it through if they tried to prosecute.

speculation about who the AG possibilities are. Of course Sally Yates' name has come up, along with Xavier Becerra, Deval Patrick, Preet Bharara, Tom Perez and Tony West.

Since Becerra is now the HHS pick, and Austin is the Defense chief pick, thereby having both an African American and Mexican American chosen for top cabinet picks, I think the next AG is most likely a woman.

Sally Yates is the most prominent woman candidate that I can think of right now so it might be her. She could take the same stance Biden has taken as far as going after trump. He said he wants an independent Justice Dept. so he would leave that up to the AG. Yates could go in the same vein by leaving trump prosecutions up to US Attorneys in New York and Florida or DC, wherever. I know the Southern District of New York would love to go after trump (the Sovereign District of New York, as they see themselves).

Am I leaving out other possible women possibles?

Yates could recuse herself from supervising investigation of Trump, delegating that authority to another. Pretty sure that's been done somewhere, sometime before. But it is a point.

So, the noise today is Doug Jones, an old workmate of Biden's. He would seem to make sense in view of Biden's emphasis on rebuilding trust in the DoJ and the guarantee that the Republicans would go scorched earth before they'd enrage their voters by approving a highly politicized and hated LW figure.

Once all the political flunkies have been expunged the prosecutors at DoJ are eager to do their jobs. I want to see CBP and ICE castrated, and the DHS dismantled. We need to see the end of private prisons. We need to end the carceral state.
