If Pete is really out of the running for the cabinet

which the Axios story about being ambassador to China suggests, then we have only one realistic shot for openly LGBT representation in the cabinet. Randi Weingarten who was the head of the AFT is in the running for education secretary. She is married to a women. I think she would be a good choice though if we don't win GA she could be hard to get through.

3. Honest question

Is that viable in Indiana? Is it simply too red for him to get elected?

I don't know much about Indiana politics but it sure seems like a long shot for a state that elected Pence to go for a young, gay Democrat.

I think more possible than Senate at this point but still tough.

...Pete is brilliant and potentially has a great State Department career ahead of him.
I see many good things for Pete. I could see him in a cabinet-level position in President Harris' new administration.

I am also thrilled beyond belief that our incoming POTUS does not have a homophobic bone in his body. Joe has our back. I trust his decisions.

He's got a lot of great things ahead of him if he decides to stay in the political theater. Exposure to the international scene is a great start. And China is going to be of great importance to the Biden Administration. This isn't going to be any type of reward that tends to happen to supporters of the President.

I wouldn't mind either either an Under Secretary or Deputy Secretary role either. That will also give a lot of exposure.

13. Biden was far from my first pick in the primary

However, the one thing he deserves great credit for is how he kind of pushed President Obama on the issue of gay marriage before the 2012 election. I don't know if it was on purpose or entirely inadvertent. It didn't matter. The fact the position was taken before the election and not after - when it wouldn't politically matter - was enormously important.

I don't worry about LGBT issues in the slightest with a President Biden.

... in retrospect, I believe he was the only candidate that could beat tRump*. The only one.

Wouldn’t blame him. Washington can fester while he does something interesting and useful abroad. He’s already quite good at diagnosing our political insanity and breaking it down for people. Time to build other skills.

with him as an ambassador. They don't much care for gay people there.

18. The NYT had a really good article about a month ago on the LGBT movement in China

Things there are not as dire as one would suspect. I have a lot of gay Chinese immigrant friends who almost all came here to obtain their degrees (and almost all at UC Berkeley at that). They tell me that gay culture there is more advanced than Westerners think, that the government kind of doesn't really care. The CCP isn't pro-gay by any means, but they kind of leave it alone as long as it doesn't upset the apple cart of power.

They have a ways to go. That article gives the impression that the country is about 15-20 years behind where the US currently is. But, it's the CCP. Who ever knows with them. They could up and decide one day that LGBT rights are a threat, and that would be the end of that. But, it doesn't seem to be the case right now. Their legal system is fantastically weird to us, like the lawsuit mentioned in the article where the gay individual successfully sued against conversion therapy on consumer rights grounds.

I was hoping Pete would have a place in the cabinet. I think his talents would be wasted as the ambassador to China.

They need a better governor. And I think he could win that position.

Just my opinion.

We will elect him here. We elected Dana Nessel as AG.

But Ambassador to China would be top notch.
