Hopeful, at last...

Yesterday as I was approaching a patient's front door, I had a fleeting thought of how much better my job would be if I weren't swaddled in PPE, if I could breathe freely and not be continually short of breath while exercising and walking my patients; if I could see without the fog on a face shield, touch my patient's seeking hands, give them a hug of reassurance. It almost makes me cry thinking of it now...I guess it was the news that the vaccine was finally administered in UK yesterday that allowed me to dare such a hopeful thought...They have been so isolated and cut off from human touch. And as miserable as it has been, the patients and clinicians in home health like me are the lucky ones! The true misery is in the ICUs across America.

How joyful it will be, the day we can take off our masks and see and touch one another again. How joyful, when the ICUs are nearly empty again. How joyful it will be to rebuild our nation and our health and relationships with loved ones and those we care for. I will take this thought with me and I know it will be a better day if I can keep it in my mind.

Have a good day DUers.
