Its not just trump, but 99% of the GOP Congress hasnt recognized Bidens win, some have joined on to or supported frivolous lawsuits, and one has volunteered to speak the case to the SCOTUS,

It's gonna be like 4 years of telling cockroaches in your kitchen to "shoo!" but never pulling out the can of Raid.

(33,345 posts)One assumes that Biden actually knows that is untenable, and he will need to twist arms and offer inducements.

(26,501 posts)be objective but not necessarily neutral. If they were truly objective. They would've devoted way more time to explain to folks how every single overture by the Obama WH was shit on by these monsters. Instead of their bullshit "both-siderism".
Like now, if anyone's going on about made up fraud and someone else says there isn't. It's not "well, there you have it folks. One side says this. The other says that. You figure out who's lying...". The press has been a little better on this instance specifically. Although they still invite too many lunatics with nothing to contribute, for my taste.

I haven't noticed it much in the NYT recently; in general, they are calling a spade a spade, albeit in their frustratingly polite tone.
I don't read much other print except DU stuff.

(4,237 posts)even pretend to reach out to fascists. I'd go so far as to just call them fascists. What are they going to do? Deny it? Go ahead. That bed's been made.

(16,387 posts)I think its probably more accurate to say Biden believes there are a few GOP senators he may be able to work with on some things that have broad popularity. Coronavirus relief being an example.
IMO its an attack on Biden to infer he is incapable of understanding the current state of the GOP or hopelessly naive, as some in the thread have done.

There's more going on here, though. We HAVE to restore a functioning government or at some point our democracy will fail. We won't win every cliffhanger. And it won't be Sanders' magical thinking socialism that takes over but an extremely powerful fascistic kleptocracy with strong white and Christian nationalist components.

(3,401 posts)The 377 to 37 bipartisan veto proof majority vote for Defense appropriations yesterday in the house that Trump promised to derail. Republicans didnt even flinch.
Its like, yea we love Trump but not nearly as much as we do our defense contractors.

(10,828 posts)Even if we win the GA runoffs, the 'majority' will be by the slimmest of margins requiring Kamala to come to the rescue time and time again. That behooves Biden to at least try an outreach to the more reasonable members of the Senate--Romney, Collins, Murkowski, etc.
Biden has had a past relationship with McConnell?
I don't have much hope in this direction; McConnell has proven himself a total toad and obstructionist. But again, trying is not a political sin. In fact, not trying would be political malfeasance. Biden has years and years of legislative experience. He knows how the Senate operates and when and how to twist arms. But there's only so much that can be done. Without a clear majority, we are once again bent over a political barrel.
So, even if all Biden's efforts are for naught, I'm willing to give him props for making the attempt. Because without the Congressional wins we were expecting, this is going to be a very heavy lift to get the country back on the rails, let alone push through necessary reforms.
