Why the hell would you even consider that POS? He's literally the worst possible person you could pick this year.

(44,446 posts)The title has always been a misnomer.
And while an unsavory figure is rare, it wasn't as though Hitler was the only one.
Stalin won it twice. Khrushchev and Ayatollah Khomeini also won it.
In 2001 by all accounts it should have been Osama Bin Laden; instead, they gave it to Rudy Giuliani, who time has shown to be hardly a much more palatable option.

(56,072 posts)It's a distinction, but not necessarily an honor.
The person who changes the news for better or for worse.
In Donnie's case, for worse.

(3,748 posts)Times person of the year is not meant to mean outstanding person of the year or most admirable person of the year. It is meant for someone newsworthy for whatever reason. By this metric tRump probably should have been 2016s person of the year, as his very unexpected ascendency to the highest office in the land was indeed newsworthy. 2020? Not so much, unless he actually manages to destroy democracy.
Dont forget, Hitler was once on the cover for this distinction. Its not meant as an approval of what they are doing, only the newsworthiness of it. But of course, I hope the dumpster doesnt get it, as HE will certainly take it as approval.
Hell, hell probably file a court case to overturn the election results based on it!

(23,951 posts)frontline health care workers!!!!!!
-Joe Biden just happens to be right person at the right time
-trump would be used as example of causing most havoc
-racial justice movement is continuous
-Dr Fauci and health care workers are the highlight of the year... working, fighting, giving all for a 2020 epic concern
I will be sorely disappointed if health care workers don't get their due

(34,747 posts)Most likely, it will go to Dr. Fauci and front-line workers. I think the president gets nominated in most years, regardless. I'm disappointed that Kamala Harris wasn't a nominee. Not to begrudge Joe Biden, but her being elected VP is, as Joe would say, a big fucking deal. I hate that it's getting downplayed here. Not that bing "Time Person of the Year" really means much in the grand scheme of things.

So, Trump as a destroyer of lives is acceptable during the year of the Dumpster Fire.

(22,236 posts)which makes me think that they just might award person of the year to Trump, ugh.
If they're awarding the "honor" to groups of people, then I hope that the front line healthcare workers get the person of the year award. They've put their lives on the line every fucking day.
