Slate just put 2 and 2 together, and it adds up to 4.
The Texas AG knows his lawsuit is junk but wants a pardon from Donald Trump for his charges of bribery and abuse of power:
Slate Magazine:
The Supreme Court, however, is not going to take up Paxtons invitation. It has asked for a response from the four defendant states by 3 p.m. on Thursday; in light of the courts hasty disposition of similarly laughable complaints, we can safely assume that the justices intend to dispatch this case promptly. Paxtons suit is shot through with conspiracy theories and constitutional claims with no basis in law. Texas Solicitor General Kyle Hawkins, who typically authors the offices lawsuits, did not sign on to this one, nor did his deputies; instead, Paxton brought in a special counsel from outside the agency. His suit is so ridiculous that it led some commentators to wonder whether the attorney general might have another motive for filing it. Paxton, after all, is reportedly under investigation by the FBI for alleged bribery and abuse of office. Trump, meanwhile, has been distributing pardons to his allies like candy. Paxtons suit makes more sense as pardon-bait than it does as a legal document. And he may need presidential clemency to escape the federal criminal charges that could be imminent.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton just filed all the proper papers with the United States Supreme Court to overturn the 2020 election.
Paxton, an outspoken advocate of President Donald Trump, claims the states flooded their people with unlawful ballot applications and ballots and ignored rules for how such ballots need to be counted, according to a press release announcing the litigation.
Trust in the integrity of our election processes is sacrosanct and binds our citizenry and the States in this Union together, Paxton said in the statement. Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin destroyed that trust and compromised the security and integrity of the 2020 election.
Now what Texas has to do with this, I dunno. But, I known for a damn guaranteed fact what Ken Paxton, Attorney General of Texas, has to do with it. He needs a pardon, in fact a couple of them and a blank form he can use in the future, and what better way to get Trumps attention.
Paxton is currently under indictment for stock fraud and is currently being investigated by the FBI for bribery and abuse of office.

(82,849 posts)If Paxton's ridiculous attempt fails - and it will - Trump isn't going to feel like he owes Paxton anything. When Paxton doesn't come through on the lawsuit that Trump himself styled as "the big one," Trump will drop him like a hot rock.
