A Texas state lawmaker has vowed to introduce legislation allowing a referendum for voters to cast their ballots on whether to secede from the United States.
"The federal government is out of control and does not represent the values of Texans. That is why I am committing to file legislation this session that will allow a referendum to give Texans a vote for the State of Texas to reassert its status as an independent nation," Texas state Rep. Kyle Biedermann (R) shared on Facebook on Tuesday.
Biederman said the legislation aligns with the Texas state Constitution, which reads "The faith of the people of Texas stands pledged to the preservation of a republican form of government, and, subject to this limitation only, they have at all times the inalienable right to alter, reform or abolish their government in such manner as they may think expedient."

No more funding for the border wall (LOL, easily scaled in less than 30 seconds) or border security.
On second thought, let us keep Houston, you can have the rest.

I am pretty much done with conservatives, sick of their lies, their flags of treason, all of it.

(7,638 posts)Demolish military bases. Enforce a total economic, trade, and visitor blockade. I can live with it. Texas Real Americans we have a lot of wonderful places to live in the USA. Let the confederate state of Texass go. Maybe Mexico will smell their weakness and take back what was taken from them. Hell we should even support a Mexican annexation.

(3,623 posts)there was ever a succession. Frankly, I think the country will break up eventually but probably not for 100 years or so. I think there would be a situation like the UK is dealing with with Brexit, but it would be even more complicated with multiple trade, fiscal, social welfare-related, and other agreements in place during the transition.

The bonus is that Magats from all over the country will rush there, with their assault weapons and tactical gear to help Texas. So we literally and figuratively get two birds killed with one stone.

If they are patriots, they won't work to destroy the Union. Never mind the whole Constitution prohibits that very thing thing. We had a war, which they are still fighting.
If they secede, or vote to secede, they are not patriots.
Which is it?
P.S. The Federal Government that is out of control is currently "led" by the gop and has been. WHat they object to is their own world. Asshats.

(639 posts)Let Texas exit (Texit) but do it with some proper steps. Let the state voters agree, by referendum, to denounce statehood and revert to territorial status. This lower status would allow them to revamp state, county and municipal governmental 'styles' to find ones that will work.
During territorial status the US can remove all it's institutions, properties and services. Some would have to include; all military bases, the entire space program of NASA, the US funded universities and local schools, the state's governmental departments that rely on federal funding and oversight, etc.
This 'territorial phase' would give Texas the time to re-create those federally funded and required services that would likely become part of a trade pact with the US, any NATO ( if they could get into that group) support and of course, setup an entire Texas State Department where the citizens would be issued new citizenship documents, passports, marriage licenses, land deeds, etc.
Succession should be tested, not in the very sloppy manner that was done during the Civil War, but with a focused plan that replaces what they now enjoy, with what they want to have in the future.
Of course once territorial status is given, the borders should be closed and the US should send military to assure Americans that no Texan comes into our nation without the full recognition of the US, by Congress- which would also have 2 less Senators and 36 fewer House members. Congress could easily reassign committee seats to other states as needed.
And the US properties, meaning buildings, etc could be destroyed by the military, to assure the Texans that the US did not plant listening devices into any of them. Texas has lots of open dirt to make new bricks to replace those properties, but Americans would want to make sure the Texans are left with nothing to tie back to the US, as having any conspiratorial connection that could be imagined.
After, say a decade of territorial status, if things get accomplished for both sides, then let Texas go on it's own.
They can spend the next 50 years trying, and likely failing, to reach a most favored status, to have good relations with the USA.
America and it's allies, could now have a new group to discriminate against. Texans!
