Local Republicans support Florida becoming its own country (welcome to my world)

SOUTHWEST Fla. – Should Florida break away from the United States and become its own country?

According to one polling company, a growing number of Southwest Florida Republicans support the idea. A growing number also believe President Trump did not lose the election.

The poll was commissioned by Victory Insights with offices in Naples. It reveals nearly 70% of SWFL Republicans believe Joe Biden won because of fraud.

In a few years, Florida will have a lot of climate change refugees. They may not be eligible for entry in the US because they engaged in sedition and revolted from the US.

They could not tell a nurse shark from a bull shark. Which any native person from a coastal region can do at a glance. Most of them see manatees as an impediment to running their fancy boats as fast as they want. Usually while drunk.

We own "snowbird" property down there, but it's so modest that any deflation in its value should be offset by decrease in whatever we might choose to replace it. (I'm thinking a MH park again in a well policed retiree area since I'd expect crime to rise unacceptably in our rural area. Very beautiful, but interior FL has a lot of poverty, not like the retiree coasts.) And we live within a day's drive in the United States so could return home for medical care after the local hospitals become unacceptable.

I don't worry about passports, welcome, etc. Like any impoverished island, tourists bringing in money would be courted and areas where Americans wintered protected from the locals.

It'd be extremely hard on and unfair to the Floridians who wanted to remain Americans, of course. I'm sure they never thought they could find themselves citizens of third-world type country oppressed and even endangered by an authoritarian government. We would have to offer resettlement aid to fellow citizens who wanted to move north.

My area is a medical center, and there's huge medical centers in Orlando and Miami as well. FL also has a lot of livestock, and other fruits and veggies like strawberries, blueberries, tomatoes etc.

Yes, there are way too many KKK types here and they make me sick but the whole state isn't totally awful. I'd say KS is far worse from what I've seen and I know TX is as well.

Florida as its own country still would not have enough of a tax base to fund Government services at its local and Federal levels.

Any Military presence there would retreat back to the auspices of the USA, as would current Federal Government entities such as the FBI, NOAA, NHC, etc. Florida would have to establish itself as a Foreign country from scratch, establishing it's own currencies, Embassy, Laws, Government services, and more. Economic policies would be a mess for all the franchise businesses located there. Not to mention paying for its own disaster relief when a hurricane hits. Current sports teams like the NFL, MLB, NBA, etc, would leave.

Much to think about when talking of succession. .All residents would require a Passport in order to travel North and West too. Not every US Citizen has a Passport. To renew one today runs $125,00 . Ours cost $110.00 in 2016 for the next 10 years. More if applying for the first time.

They would likely be unable to enforce any immigration laws - it would be fun to see them overrun with illegal immigrants, both Hispanic and US Americans, not to mention Canadian snowbirds who could stay all year.

US American business would flourish at will and the threats of deportation be toothless. Nobody would come to Disney World and Georgia could take advantage to build a new one. US would make a substitute for Cape Canaveral, so they'd lose that, too. US tourists would still overwhelm their beaches.

Spanish might become their first language, to the chagrin of the rednecks that wanted this in the first place.

Only a few more % Republicans. Its not like these states are solid block-red - they are 47-49% Democratic.

Maybe the only difference is that Republicans can get away with sounding crazy in FL, although they are also getting away with sounding crazier and crazier in the Midwest.

The panhandle can't financially support itself, so maybe it can be annexed by Alabama. Though, Alabama may say no, because I don't think they can afford to support them either.

That little section between Tallahassee and Jacksonville can be annexed by Georgia, which would be a smart move for Republicans, since Georgia is going blue. It would be the next best thing to Gerrymandering.

We'll take Central Florida and South Florida.

It will be a process, but we can start buying out the pontoon owners around the Everglades. We might have to give up on the west coast all together.

We'll still have Disney.
