https://www.supremecourt.gov/DocketPDF/22/22O155/163482/20201210234950524_22O155%20Bullock.pdfTexas chose not to include the State of Montana, where President Trump and other Republicans were successful in a mail ballot election conducted to reduce the impact of COVIDunderscoring, of course, that this action is less about election integrity than it is about attempting to overturn the will of the electorate. But if Texas is successful in its suit, it would destabilize the results of elections in Montana and any other state that took valid state-law actions to minimize the impact of the virus on voting, including states that delivered victories to Republican candidates using mail ballots.
IOW: Montana did the same thing Texas is suing Georgia et al. for, but they arbitrarily chose not to sue Montana because Trump won there.

(50,566 posts)...the Regeneron Cocktail contains tequila and crack, which are the only two things that will make you that stupid.

(5,125 posts)Texas has not developed an evidentiary record of violations in any of the states whose results it challenges, and so it seeks to simply skip the critical fact-finding stage. Texas should not be permitted to short-circuit the judicial process in this way and obtain relief to which it is not entitled.
TEXAS FEELING ENTITLED? NAH. SERIOUSLY?
(Going to wear out the SARCASM button today.)

(32,737 posts)For Montana's Governor to be in support of democracy, but Montana's Attorney General is not?

I looked it up and Montana has a Democratic governor! That seems miraculous! That explains it. The AG is Republican.

(50,566 posts)Montana also has the only statehouse in the nation without security checkpoints, or if they have them now they were the last to install them.
I read a fun story once of Brian Schweitzers time as governor. (Schweitzer was the governor the GOP was most afraid of, because none of their attacks would have worked on him.) Apparently a family from out of state was vacationing in Helena when they decided to have lunch. They wanted to eat inside so they went in the statehouse and found an empty room, which turned out to be the executive conference room. Schweitzer found them in there, went in and asked them about their vacation, where they got their food, etc., then told them to have a nice lunch and started to leave. They asked him what he did in the Montana government. Oh, Im the governor.

Delaware is small in population like that. I once saw Joe (Senator then) and Jill get out of their car to go to the State Fair. They parked where everyone else did. We passed them walking from the car to the fair. When Carper was governor, I saw him in a church. And the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court - passed him walking on the sidewalk in Wilmington once.

(15,374 posts)yet the Governor of Montana.
He is still only the Governor-elect and has absolutely NO standing whatsoever to speak for the state. F*ck him forever!
IMO, he would do the world a favor by dropping dead before he is ever sworn in.

Gianforte would not have filed on behalf of defendants.

(3,282 posts)that they ran their election in the same way the 4 states named did, so ruling against them would also undercut Montana's election.
He's right.

(3,282 posts)His term is ending.
However, he did lose a race for Senate. So he's basically filing a brief that says they need to preserve the election that he lost.

(7,923 posts)It is true Trump won this time. The reason they did not sue Montana is they'd have no evidence of unusual voting procedures because we've done it for awhile and everyone here knows that it works.
All the more reason for our Democratic Governor to file an amicus. Our Rethuglican AG also knows better so his suit begs the question, and may violate Montana's Constitution. IMO AG Fox is aiding the attempted coup to improve his political future on the Neo-Confederate bandwagon.

(82,383 posts)And yet before the election, the Dotard Campaign tried to sue Montana regarding voting by mail! They lost that case. So they were wasting their time. Interesting they thought they could lose in Montana with voting by mail.
