(12,046 posts)That even dipshit Trump stumbled into 3 judges who are less partisan hacks than those 2 assholes.

(12,663 posts)Alito and Thomas are at the top of the list for impeachment.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)As predicted on another thread, Alito and Thomas dissented, saying TX should have been able to file this for review (and then presumably denial).

(8,892 posts)when election results get finalized in congress next month. If enough of them reject the results do to whatever fantasy they come up with it could get kicked back to the state or states in question where the Governor would simply finalize it, it other words, it would just prolong confirmation, not overthrow the results.

onetexan
(13,913 posts)is a frivolous suit.
Blue_true
(31,261 posts)Look like they were saying let them file, then we stomp their suit. The others said Hell, the suit is pure garbage, why waste our time?
onetexan
(13,913 posts)whenever there is legal dispute between 2 states the SCOTUS has obligation to take the case.
Blue_true
(31,261 posts)There seems to be other cross-currents in that decision. I believe Roberts was worried about the status of the Court and likely simply wanted nothing to do with the Texas suit except dismiss it. The liberals likely felt that the suit was a gross attack on the rule of law and should be rejected purely on that grounds. Barrette, Kavanaugh, and Gorsuch may have seen states rights issues, they feeling that states should make their own decisions, however bad and victimizing to some citizens, so they may have dismissed the Texas suit along those lines.

(2,162 posts)Today at 3:34 pm Pacific time, DemocraticUnerground frequent poster blogslut was first to post the news that the Supreme Court of the United States has rejected a bid by alleged President Donald Trumps seditious syncophants in Texas an elsewhere to throw out the votes of millions of citizens in four swing states.
The hotly contested competition saw multiple postings just seconds apart, including those by Deomcratatbirth, Bigmanpigman, and others.
This comment itself appears to be the very first reportage on the Scotus breaking news competition and, and as a result, represents a solid entry on the least relevant DU commentary competition, also hotly contested by many at the well known progressive politics forum.

(82,849 posts)Thomas and Alito seem to be saying that the Supreme Court doesn't have the discretion to reject such a bogus filing out of hand. It doesn't look like either of them is ruling on the merits of the bill of complaint, just that they think the Supreme Court is bound, somehow, to put up with this nonsense and waste the Court's time burning this specious bullshit to the ground.

George II
(67,782 posts)....from the Supreme Court is great to see. The ruling:
The State of Texass motion for leave to file a bill of
complaint is denied for lack of standing under Article III of
the Constitution. Texas has not demonstrated a judicially
cognizable interest in the manner in which another State
conducts its elections. All other pending motions are dismissed
as moot.
Statement of Justice Alito, with whom Justice Thomas joins:
In my view, we do not have discretion to deny the filing of a
bill of complaint in a case that falls within our original
jurisdiction. See Arizona v. California, 589 U. S. ___
(Feb. 24, 2020) (Thomas, J., dissenting). I would therefore
grant the motion to file the bill of complaint but would not
grant other relief, and I express no view on any other issue.
Now I have to go to Twitter to see HIS reaction!!!

(13,734 posts)All the hoops a Democratic presidential candidate must go through now to win. Beginning one must secure the nomination, then win the popular vote and electoral votes, and then run through a number of states a second, third, fourth, etc. time, and then be certified, and then go through state Supreme Court challenges, and then the SCOTUS. Wow!
