(34,914 posts)They'd get the buildings (if they don't get razed), but all of the personnel and equipment would be removed. The same goes for NASA and every other federal facility. I guess they think it's going to be another pullout, like the one in Syria, where Trump left all of our stuff to fall into the hands of our enemies?

As a Native Texan I'm not going anywhere and transplant West can go to hell and take your party with you.
Thanks Cha, us Democratic Texans get so tired of the Texas bashing, it stopped for a little while after GWB left office, but now we have another round of bashing because of nincompoops.
And everyone's solution here is "Hey you can move" easy peasy, which isn't the case for thousands of Democratic Texans. We love our state!

Along with the rest of our Dems.
This State needs to be un-gerrymandered.

(319,070 posts)great.. it's just the fascists in charge.
I have True Blue loved ones in Florida & they're not going anywhere, either.
Keep Fighting!
Texas can be the economic engine for the new confederacy. I am sure all the Blue States would appreciate not having to support so many welfare states.

(2,053 posts)You don't get to secede and take all the benefits of being a member state of the United States. No federal funds. No military equipment. No free travel to other parts of the US.
I know Mexico invading may be far fetched but succession has consequences that have VERY great downsides.

(20,049 posts)There's a lot of good Democrats down here in Texas, and this helps the Texas GOP, and the National GOP, when we broad brush a state on the cusp of being purple and go on social media trash talking it. I deflates Democratic gains and (they hope) sends Democratic people who were just beginning to become active off the grid again.
These people in the GOP are idiots, but they're devious, calculating idiots. They know the games they're playing, and they're damn good at them. They know it's a stupid ass thing to propose, they definitely don't really want it, but they do love the fallout from it, from both sides.

(7,350 posts)Most of the economic US powerhouse is concentrated in blue states. And of course, Texas does have some very blue cities, what if they decide to apply for state hood like West Virginia did during the civil war?
It would be the biggest blunder they ever do. And this time, no shots would be fired...the economic catastrophe would plunge them into darkness....then it won't be long before they beg to be let back in.

(4 posts)Keith Olbermann's WTF segment where he talked about the consequences of Texas seceding? I think it was 2008. I haven't figured out how to post links yet.
Rhiannon12866
(255,525 posts)Gov Rick Perry is such a doof and is such an embarrassment to rational-minded Texans. Olbermann was absolutely brilliant laying out the consequences (as if it were even possible for Texas to secede, which it's not) to those who think it might be a "good idea." He puts it in very simple and easy to understand terms of just how ridiculous such a "threat" is.

(16,412 posts)Even if the USA let's them secede and Mexico says nah, we don't want you, that leaves trump as their king.
He will be the one making the trade deals. Based on his history, trump will be the only winner. Kickbacks from oil drillers for leases to drill. He will not hold them responsible for any environmental disasters they cause. There will be international lawsuits against Texijuana for pollution that crosses their borders. Or he will just nationalize their oil industry and skim off the top, storing his $$$ in the Caymans.
Let's not forget, everything trump touches dies.
Their whole federal court system will be gone. Abortion and birth control will be outlawed. Combined with a now failing hospital system (no medicare or medicaid) women and babies will die in childbirth-at home and without prenatal care.
Not to ignore a virus outbreak like Covid 19. Without a CDC or any belief in science, and trump at the helm there will be a high death rate. Prayer will be their only remedy.
I think I just described the Handmaid's tale.
If there is anyone left who can afford to travel "abroad" the law will state they have to stay at a trump hotel or risk jail.
Rhiannon12866
(255,525 posts)He ran his father's lucrative and successful business into the ground with the changes he made until he had nothing to sell but his name. And we all know how that turned out, Trump steaks, Trump vodka and the infamous Trump University! I have always believed that the only reason he decided to run was as a desperate money making scheme. He never intended or wanted to do the job - which he obviously hasn't - he just wanted the campaign contributions and thought that would be the end of it.
We've long known that "everything that Trump touches dies." And so ends his unsuccessful, deplorable presidency. But this time he's bitten off more than he can chew. In the past, his dishonesty wasn't in the spotlight and he was able to call in favors from his cronies and manage to get by. But he's no longer dealing with cronies and, if he had ever paid the slightest attention to history or world events, he'd have realized that everything that a president says or does is automatically subject to intense scrutiny.
So this time he not only has to answer to the U.S legal system, but most of his "appointments" aka cronies have, too. So I don't predict a successful post presidency for Trump. I'm counting that his crimes that he can no longer hide are about to catch up with him.

(3,278 posts)As a Democratic Texan, I would love to get rid of the GOP hegemony and we would have no more of this nonsense.
All of the major metropolitan areas in TX are blue folks... I'm tired of the Texas bashing though and DU seems to always
paint with a broad brush when it comes to Texas. Also, Texas isn't fucking Alabama, Georgia or Tennessee. --->>
The economy of the State of Texas is the second largest in the United States. It has a gross state product of $1.887 trillion (2019, the second largest in the U.S.
In 2017, Texas grossed more than $264.5 billion a year in exportsmore than the exports of California ($172 billion) and New York ($77.9 billion) combined.
Texas ranks 34th in 50 states as LESS DEPENDENT on federal funds than Wisconsin, Ohio, Rhode Island, Maryland and fucking New York among others...
https://wallethub.com/edu/states-most-least-dependent-on-the-federal-government/2700
So, instead of bashing us Texans.., support Texas Dems so we can finally go blue.
