That said, I don't think he was going to sit by as the entire judicial system was politicized and the institution destroyed going forward.

I don't think he HAD to, but I actually do believe he WOULD have. Those who hate Roberts may need to get some perspective. He's the "best" of the worst--if for no other reason, perhaps, than he really does want the legacy of the court to continue.

It never looked close. There doesn’t appear to be any reason to think that any of them would have ruled in his favor on the underlying case

None of them wanted SCOTUS to be dragged into partisan politics and dragged through the mud as it was after Bush vs. Gore, which I think they realize now was a very big mistake.

The ruling stopped another recount. There is a big difference.

The odds are if Bush V Gore came up again, the court would have decided in favor of Trump.

Trump was caught up in the Bush V Gore, "magic", but this case was very different. Bush v Gore was filed during a recount on Dec 8 and a decision was made on Dec 12

I don't think we always appreciate what happens to these people's lives when they oppose Trump's radical supremacists.

Trump is turning his rage to the court. He's stirring up his crazies.

Fauci has to have security for himself and his family.
John Roberts has a wife and children. None of them will be safe now. None of the judges will be safe except maybe Thomas.

These are people who gave up a tremendous amount just to do the right thing. Just to do their jobs. It's gotten that bad.
