(76,697 posts)This is a purple district.
Right wing frothers wouldn't stand a chance of winning here. He has won his lost 2 elections by large margins, but there are dem mayors, and dem county board members in all the largest counties & cities in his district.
The bluest area is, I admit, north of where his district ends. But, he isn't vulnerable to pirmarying, and he's never run as a radical.
He, like his predecessor, has made himself bulletproof.

(169,744 posts)then people like this one (and some 24 - 25 other "moderate" GOPers - we have one here in a district outside of Philly - Brian Fitzpatrick) are sitting ducks and would be targets of "GOP harassment" (including threatening phone calls, emails, death threats and whatnot).

(76,697 posts)Too many MOR voters for a member of the lunatic right around here.
They could try to primary him, but he's got big backing money. And, if they spent enough to get him out, they'd waste the money because a dem will win the seat.
As crazy as they've gotten, they haven't lost their self-preservation instincts.
He's red rep in a blue state. It would be stupid to get at a guy who is heading into leadership.
In 2022, fealty to PINO won't be a thing. He'll be yesterday's weather report by then

(17,376 posts)to me and to the safe being of our nation if Rep. Kinzinger done this after the States confirmed their election results in the first place. Even better, the day after the election after tRump started bellyaching and belching fraud. Rep. Kinzinger might even have become a real leader by doing so. Too little, too late too much damage has already been done.
Sour grapes on my part, but I cant forgive and wont forget these people staying silent and letting tRump push us to the edge of a messy civil precipice that we likely wont entirely avoid.

(6,477 posts)Parts of IL16 are Trump hell, parts are close enough to Chicago to be mainly alright. He'll def catch a primary challenge over this; it's probably the most interesting anti-Trump statement of the post-election period, as it may signal that some Rs are making the calculation to dump Trump's ass in the trash.

(26,257 posts)election speaks a lot about the state of the republican party. I think we all know who the world's biggest losers are now...it's kind of hard to miss them, just follow the crocodile tears upstream...
