Republicans are assholes.
.......
MADISON - The Republican-led Legislature's budget committee is holding up reimbursements to two counties for their recount costs.
President Donald Trump's campaign paid $3 million for recounts in Dane and Milwaukee counties, Wisconsin's two most Democratic areas.
But two top Republicans said Friday they were withholding the money from the counties for now. They did not explain why.
Lawmakers "are playing politics with money that isn't theirs," said Milwaukee County Clerk George Christenson.
"It's acting in bad faith," he said. "It's not their money. It's Trump's money and this is what he decided to spend it on."

(13,446 posts)Wisconsin law states payment from the campaigns is due BEFORE the recount happens. Why was it allowed to happen this time? This entire thing stinks to high heaven. I love Madison, but it does seem like the collective Wisconsin IQ has dropped a great deal since they elected Scott Walker and his band of miscreants. LORD but I am sick of these corrupt assholes.

(46,137 posts)That becomes the fund out of which the counties, after the recount, can seek reimbursement of their actual costs. The repubs apparently are questioning some of the costs for which the counties are claiming reimbursement.

(102,745 posts)As is required by the State. So the received the money but won't release it or they never got it. It should have been released to the counties before they started the recount.

(46,137 posts)The money was paid into the state in advance of the recount, as provided by law. But the law also provides that the counties performing the recount don't get paid until after the recount. That is because, under the law, the counties are only entitled to reimbursement of their actual costs, which can't be known until after the recount.
This, of course, opens the door for the republicans to second guess how much the counties are claiming as their actual costs. For example, there have been claims that recount workers were paid $30/hour and that Republicans are questioning the reasonableness of that expense.
