Loeffler disavows photo taken with longtime white supremacist

Sen. Kelly Loeffler’s campaign strongly condemned a photo circulating on social media of her posing with a longtime white supremacist taken at an event in Dawsonville on Friday.

The photo shows Loeffler smiling from beneath an American flag ball cap next to Chester Doles, a longtime white supremacist who spent decades in the Ku Klux Klan and the neo-Nazi National Alliance. He was sentenced to prison for the 1993 beating of a Black man in Maryland and again on weapons violations in Georgia. He also associated with the Hammerskins, a racist skinhead gang with whom he marched in 2017?s violent United the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Doles posted the picture to his account on VK, a Russian social networking site where he has posted pictures of himself posing with other Georgia politicians, including Republican Congresswoman-elect Marjorie Taylor Greene and Trump-friendly Democratic state Rep. Vernon Jones. Within a few hours, the Loeffler photo had spread to Twitter.

In 2019, Doles started a new organization called American Patriots USA, a group supportive of President Donald Trump but deeply tied to the far-right militia movement. Doles endorsed several longshot political candidates in the 2020 election, but also attempted to tie himself to U.S. Rep.-elect Greene. She had Doles removed from an event in September in Ringgold.

1. Contrast this with "Defund the Police"

a slogan uttered by loosely connected activists to the Democratic party. Democratic leaders, including President Obama and President-Elect Biden, chided Democrats for this slogan, something that no Democratic candidate actually ran on. It was seen as the biggest reason why Democrats lost down-ballot races.

Yet, a Republican senate candidate can pose for a picture with an avowed KKK/Nazi figure and....nothing. Nothing at all.

This politcal dichotomy needs to be soberly addressed when one party gets away with everything and the other party gets tarnished for everything.

One side is held to very high standards and the other one to no standards at all. Repuke supporters can beat up and even kill people and the politicians they support never suffer the consequences at the ballot box. American voters absolutely refuse to hold them accountable for anything.

Classic case of having it both ways. Her campaign makes a statement that essentially saying she doesen’t know who she associates with. Loeffler herself remains silent, allowing her white nationalist constituents to continue to believe that she supports them. As she surely does.
