I wasn't sure where to post this but I got ask for jury service and I wasn't able to complete due to the thread being so long I could never find the "red" post I was supposed to judge. It just wasn't there, so I backed-out and ask to be removed from consideration. Did anyone else have this problem?

edit: ah, apparently this is some new bug......... judging by what others are saying

(97,637 posts)So many posts were displayed it went off the right side of the page. Never saw the one sent to jury. I backed out. Can't vote on what you can not read.
This was some time ago and still not fixed.

(8,905 posts)I think after I failed to be on one a few times, I stopped getting requests.
I did honestly not understand what exactly was being presented as possibly wrong with a post. Seemed a number of the posts and those around it were vague to me.
Could have just been me too...

(8,514 posts)And sometimes I just don't feel well-enough informed about a particular topic to make a fair judgement.
And sometimes I just know I can't be fair because of my own biases.
I don't think I've had a situation where I couldn't find the red post, but I remember something else happened a little while back that I thought was odd. And oddly, I don't remember what it was.

(31,380 posts)This happened to me once before. I will try to find where and when, it was pretty recent.

You used to get a link to the thread in question but the Admins changed that a couple years ago (at least) and I assume with the logic that you could better address the actual merits of the post if you had less context. Or so it seems to me.
So I don't even bother to try and find the thread, I just look at what the software provides and go from there.
Frankly, I've found that a lot of the alerts I get called to jury on are questions of opinion, and not deliberate misinformation, to wit;
I've regularly served on juries for alerts that are for "peddling right wing conspiracies" (or whatever that category is) and very often, the post in question is simply sharing a news item he/she found interesting.
Putting up a link to a story that someone might find distasteful, or is somewhat less than flattering of a Democratic politician are not grounds for an alert, in my mind. And certainly not grounds for a hide.
I'm for freedom of conscience and expression, so it has to be pretty egregious for me to alert on anything, but it does seem there are way too many here that are a wee quick on that little "Alert abuse" hyperlink.
FoxNewsSucks
(11,704 posts)Putting a link to some rightwing source with discussion of why it's being posted doesn't constitute "peddling". We should be able to discuss what the enemy is saying or doing. To me, "peddling" means "promoting".
Same for posting something critical of a Democrat. I don't consider a post to be "bashing" if the poster states a valid policy or action criticism. I have alerted on almost nothing over the years. If I don't like something, I just move on unless it's really over the top.
It sometimes seems that some people are out to take down certain posters, and probably have successfully done so in the past. I've seen things get hidden where another post in the same thread said the same thing and was let stand.

(1,349 posts)And, it was after I read this postso very weird.
It was two people with a lot of back and forth negative quips.
Ive never seen that before. They both deserved the alert.

(31,261 posts)people doing long reply strings and see one or both getting hot under the collar, I sort of want to break in and say please calm down. I have been in a few long reply strings and because of jury service incidents, I am always telling myself not to get upset with the other poster.

(31,261 posts)Typically the alerted post is highlighted on the first screen. I sometimes have to expand to look at all post leading up to the one alerted on - by doing that in such cases, I get a better sense of how to make a decision.

Id bet money, it was alerted on only because sometimes didnt agree with the post. That seems to happen a lot here.

(2,539 posts)I wanted to vote to "hide" just to get it off the board, but I couldn't get to the bottom. Everybody in the thread deserves the "hide".

(11,419 posts)Couldn't find the buttons for evaluating it, so I backed up a page and declined jury service for this round. It seemed to be an argument between two posters that had gone on way past the point where either of them was contributing.

(5,725 posts)get the post to come up on the long thread. Im on an iPad, maybe it would have been visible on my Win 10 laptop?.

(9,101 posts)I couldn't even see the post I was supposed to adjudicating on in the initial jury decision view, so looked for the thread on GD, found the post (it was in a very long exchange), decided to let it stand, then when I clicked to do so, the post disappeared off the right-hand edge again, so I couldn't complete the process!
In the end, I managed to cancel jury service by using the link in the banner at the top of the thread, otherwise I'd still be stuck in jury limbo.

(3,976 posts)It was quite a long string. I saw red the post I was supposed to adjudicate, but the buttons were cut off to the point that I couldn't read them.

(38,051 posts)...silliness. There are at least ten from each of the two people that qualify for an alert probably.
I used to get into that sort of thing, and after a while I realized I was just being stupid. The "ignore" key is your friend.
If I had been able to find the final post, and the "clearly breaks the rule" button, I probably would have used it.

(17,984 posts)this thread proves it was for alerts. I alerted on nothing, yet had plenty more to post that proved harassment.

(9,101 posts)I suggest you self-delete this post of yours or at least edit out the URL in it. You're pointing to a different post in the same thread as the one I was called to serve on anyway - I suspect a LOT of posts in that thread have been alerted.
