(42,770 posts)Susan Rice. Because I heard her interviewed one time and she said she spent an
entire day briefing on pademic - guess who she briefed - Michael Flynn. Who was
fired weeks later. You KNOW he didn't train his successor. Always thought
this did NOT get any play on the news. Also thought it was an excellent slam
on Trump that we Dems didn't use.

(33,135 posts)It was this particular issue that elicited my grudging respect for W and the realization he wasn't the complete nincompoop I'd thought he was.
Apparently, near the end of his term he'd read a book about the 1918 Flu pandemic while he was on vacation. He felt so strongly and was alarmed about it. Immediately upon his return to the WH he'd brought in an advisor and asked what could be done to prevent a situation like that from occurring in the future.
One of the items of highest priority he handed off to Obama was the project they'd come up with in the playbook and surveillance office. President Obama agreed and completed the project.
Trump trashed it all.
The bottom line is, if the playbook had been followed what has transpired over the last nine months and over 300,000+ American lives lost would have been largely avoided.
This has hardly been reported in the main stream media and is the primary reason Trump and his Republican enablers should not be allowed to walk away without major repercussions.

(21,786 posts)the USA has 330 million people; the UK has 65 million. 64,500*5=322,500>300,479. There is a reason numbers like this are usually represented as "per 100K population".

We're done.

(21,786 posts)also I am pretty sure that British and Italian and French etc families who've lost someone to covid are just as devastated as American ones (strange but true fact, Americans are not actually the only people on the planet!)
