I mean, even Jared and Ivanka are buying a house in FL.
They are not insisting on living at Mar-a-Lago.

Yes I think it will be interesting.
Maybe he needs to live on his yacht.

(7,437 posts)His sycophants can get the royal treatment AND be entertained by the jackass. It's theatre. Trump can't pull off theatre in a real residence. He can't charge people to hang onto his every word in a home, but he can do it in a resort.

No way first nude will live with him ever again.

Which brings the question if we actually ever elected a middle class person, how would the Secret Service accommodate security? An extra bedroom?

(67 posts)Before President Ford was sworn the SS rented the garage of his neighbour across the street for a command post. This was a kinder gentler time in history. The story is the neighbour also supplied the hydro, water and a bathroom for the people guarding the president.

(5,131 posts)Its another way he " games" the system. - Nothing illegal about it. Don't think there is anything unethical about it either. Some may even call it good business. But my point is, Its what he does, live off other people's money, grift,. Whatever he does, he's gotta see a way to get something out of it. Having a house with no income from it? No way to grift? Nothing in it for him. This is not a man that thinks like most of us regular folks.

(18,402 posts)with the city of Palm Beach that disallows the property from being used as a residence. Whether it is to be enforced remains to be seen by the courts (of course).
President Trumps neighbors in Florida are seeking to enforce a decades-old compact that says Mar-a-Lago, his private social club, cannot be used as a full-time residence as Mr. Trump has suggested he plans to do after he leaves the White House.
Neighbors of Mar-a-Lago sent a letter to the Town of Palm Beach and the U.S. Secret Service on Tuesday complaining that Mr. Trump has violated the 1993 agreement he made with the town that allowed him to convert the property to a moneymaking club.
Per the use agreement of 1993, Mar-a-Lago is a social club, and no one may reside on the property, wrote Reginald Stambaugh, a lawyer representing the DeMoss family, which has a property next to Mar-a-Lago. ...
The significant tax breaks the president received for this arrangement remain in effect, as does the use agreement, Mr. Stambaugh wrote. Some press reports indicate that renovation has already commenced at Mar-a-Lago in order to make the family quarters more commodious for full-time residency.
Part of that use agreement, which was reviewed by The Times, limits how long members can stay there. It says that there cannot be stays for three nonconsecutive seven-day periods by any one member during the year.

(15,051 posts)People told him he can't live there full time. So he's going to make a point of doing so just to say "fuck you" to them all every day.
He also thinks it is a special and important property. Apart from his involvement with it, I mean. I won't repeat the history of the place, it's easy to look up. In reality almost nobody in the world gives a shit about it or its history.
And as for the third, he will charge the USSS for rooms, golf cart rentals, and all that shit every fucking day for the rest of his life. He made a small fortune doing that in the 4 years he was POTUS. Imagine what he will bill them when he's at a business/club every damn day not just weekends.

(20,536 posts)Short of prison, I'm hoping for Section 8 housing...maybe someplace like St. Louis, his coke-addled son stealing any loose change off the dresser, Ivanka in a shabby overcoat, pushing a shopping cart screaming at random passer-by. Afraid to leave the apartment because the elevator is broken, he sits alone in his underwear, watching out the window for Putins limousine...which never never comes.

(10,938 posts)Now that his neighbors have gone public with their disgust for him, and have forced the city council to revisit DFT's written promises to never use that as a residence, he gets to play the sad sad loser card. Maybe his fans can do a Go Fund Me to buy him a house. Let the grifting continue.

(5,794 posts)When he bought Mar A Lago, he was pretty much detested. Palm Beach is Blue Blood old-money. Trump is Nouveau Riche. He'd be more at home in Boca Raton, Cutler Bay, or (as someone else said) Doral. But living in Palm Beach means proving a point to all those old bastards that looked down their noses at him. Now he's the grand old man of Palm Beach - an ex-President.
