Oh yeah: I heard that in 1964 when Barry Goldwater was trounced. I heard that when Nixon was impeached and resigned. I heard that when Barack Obama was elected. Im hearing it again now.
There is not a prayer that the Republicans are going anywhere. To be frank, since Calvin Coolidge They have displayed much more cohesion than Democrats and it is our failing that we did not and still do not cultivate more discipline to stay on message the way they do. Every time I would see one of those Lincoln project ads, I would shake my head and think to myself that I had never in my long lifetime seen an ad produced by a group of Democrats which was as effective as even one of those commercials. And this I dont understand: we have many creative minds, we have righteousness and truth, we have quite frankly the brains to do a better job.
Those of us who are old enough to remember that political advertisement with the white hands crushing the letter containing a rejection of employment due to affirmative action, probably also recall shaking our collective heads and realizing that in 30 seconds an entire Senate campaign was disarmed. The most effective ad of Democrats ever was the Daisy Ad with Lyndon Johnsons campaign, pulled after just a few viewings because it was too harsh. It was also extremely effective. But as usual, Our collective sensibilities prevented us from using a sledgehammer. Unfortunately to deal with these right wingers, forget the sledgehammer, youre going to need the equivalent of a howitzer.

(6,454 posts)will they promote. I have hated them more as time passes. 40 years of their stupidity and cruelty, enough is enough.

(11,269 posts)The way the Electoral College, Senate and House gerrymandering are set up they are close to completely governing by minority rule. I'm sick about it, this country is full of stupid, racist hateful people, and they're Republicans.

(10,092 posts)Not much chance of destroying them by external attack but I think theres a chance they could turn on each other.

(15,805 posts)that might offend someone. That makes our brand look indecisive and weak, unsure of our own platform and policies.
It always comes down to decisive messaging and the saying, "keep it simple stupid" should be our guiding principle. We don't even have a coordinated press shop to push out daily PSAs and provide the politicos with solid talking points that support our positions. It's 2020, long past the time when critical national messaging can be entrusted to a bunch of octogenarians who are still stuck in the 50s era of polite evening news shows..

(16,722 posts)He will bring a lot more disaffected Republicans into the fold.
Even Steve saw that the Democratic Party was a big tent party centered on principles and values that focus on the needs of the people, thus the country. He saw in the GOP, greed, lies, lust for power, cheating at all cost. Like with Rome, the GOP will fall as well. The fall has begun. Trump was just the face they needed to visualize what the party had become.

(630 posts)I bought into that narrative once, after Obama was elected (demographics=destiny). Turns out that wasn't correct. When you, as a party, have no qualms about starving people to protect corporations, those corporations will work to keep you in power. Give them unlimited "political speech" rights and voila, you have functional minority rule. It helps when those in power aren't ideologically moored to any concept other than retention and/ or expansion of power. It's going to be a very tough nut to crack.

Trump is beaten and irrelevant. It's convenient that he's now making Republicans look even less altruistic than he is:
White House aides talked Trump out of last-minute demand for stimulus checks as big as $2,000

(14,559 posts)we better figure out how to turn that tide.
Listen up people we LOST seats in the House and won almost NO senate seats. We didn't win the Presidency, they LOST it just like they did with George W Bush. We cannot count on the Republican party to run totally incompetent candidates so we can win.
We got work to do.
