5. I moved to Texas twice. Neither time did I do it voluntarily.

That's where the job sent me the first time, and where it sent my husband the second time. Also, my experience was that we didn't actually pay noticeably less in taxes in Texas than we do now, in a state with a reputation for high taxes. When all the various state and local taxes were added up, it ended up being pretty much a wash.

I've often thought that living in south Texas (San Antonio) wouldn't be bad. Mild winters, 2 hours from the Gulf, less crazies than Florida and Arizona.

company based in Houston for a couple of years. Once I called down to order a wedding set. I told the woman to send it to our store in Iowa.

“We ain’t got no stores in Idaho,” she said.

10. There is no party registration in Texas

In Texas, you don't register with a party. You just register to vote. You can vote only in one primary per election, but even if you vote in a particular party's primary, you are not registered as a party member. You are only prevented to from voting in another party's election during that one election cycle.
