If Putin wanted to bring about a total shit storm in the US, could he have done "better"

than "installing" trump as president?

When you take a step back and consider what we have witnessed.....someone not in the US must be so proud. And it goes beyond the orange asshole of course, to all of the corrupted, compromised "helpers" sprinkled around congress and the cabinet.

Joe and Kamala have such a monstrous job ahead of them.

Any enemy would be quite happy to see the US brought to its knees, powerless and ungovernable.

Over 3000 Americans dying every day, millions of others sick, unemployed, hungry and homeless.
Governmental cyber infrastructure at Putin's finger tips.

GOP fine with this and half the American people think so too.

It has been a brilliant Russian operation. What consequences will he face?

Put that shit hole with nukes may be a little more than annoyed at what happens in their future. He may have won for now but remember this: "We will bury you!" is a phrase that was used by Soviet First Secretary Nikita Khrushchev while addressing Western ambassadors at a reception at the Polish embassy in Moscow on November 18, 1956. A little premature and cocky in a pattern still going today.

The problem with Russia is it absolute disaster in many ways except Putin can put, at his whim, resources where it may inflict damage on the USA. But overall Russia is the one that will likely have a very tough future. As Putin steals the resources, and as few things work well there (did you see that their cheating Olympic team penalty came out "well" for them?), it is pretty much a failed state.

But, that would be "bad".

When it comes to cyber warfare, there isn't exactly a whole lot on the books to call it an act of war. Likewise, when it comes to interfering in elections, we don't exactly have a good track record our selves *cough* Iran, Chile, etc. *cough*.

So what he did was bad, but, given international treaties, etc. isn't going to pass the muster of doing anything severe and sanctions on our part will have minimal to no effect. In the end, there will be few consequences, particularly since we need them more than they need us on a number of diplomatic issues.

The USA has a long history of messing with elections during the Cold War...and Regime Change afterwards, we are not the moral authority here.

Yes, few consequences. We can boycott everything from Russia...including Russian Standard Vodka (thought I was going to say Stolichnaya?)..and nothing will change, given Putin has made sure they have no reliance on the USA

And yes, we still need to engage with Russia. On matters with Iran, Syria, China, North Korea, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Venezuela, Cuba, Afghanistan, etc.

Oh and, there are very few treaties when it comes to cyber warfare...because, we do a lot of it ourselves. Add to that, we do a lot of information collection on our own populace, let alone foreign countries. Even corporations quietly do espionage on their rivals and there is little governance. So...nothing happens.

When Israel sent a virus to Iran to compromise their Nuke program, if we used your definition, constitutes as an act of war....and Iran would be justified in responding. Yeah, that would put us in a very uncomfortable position at the UN.

None of this is cut and dry.
