(4,131 posts)There have been few times in my life that I have been as proud of a politician as I am of Stacey Abrams and her efforts in Georgia to overcome decades of GOP suppression of minority voters. She's one of the most inspiring and effective leaders I've ever seen.
She lost a race. She didn't whine.
She stayed in Georgia and fought for her people. Every last one of them.
I admire her so much!

(3,339 posts)Not too certain she ACTUALLY lost. I believe there were voter suppression shenanigans yet to be dug up. But, will the Dems eventually grow some ovaries and fight back, real hard?!

(25 posts)But did she whine, file lawsuits, spout conspiracy theories? No! She hit the streets, organized, and helped turn Georgia blue. She's still working...for us. Makes me wonder if she lost for a reason!? Can't see her accomplishing as much as she has if she were governor. Great work, Stacey!

(7,715 posts)Yes, a lot of people helped. But the fact of the matter is that Bill Clinton was the last Democratic presidential candidate to win GA, and that was 28 years ago. It was Stacey Abrams-led Fair Fight, AFAIK, that tipped the balance to Joe and Kamala in 2020.
Stacey Abrams was robbed of being Governor of Georgia 2 years ago. Fair Fight is her vengeance and her gift to us.
Her eloquence and energy know no bounds. She is a genuine American hero and role model for everyone of us.

(7,715 posts)However, she's announced she is running for Georgia governor in 2022.
StarfishSaver
(18,486 posts)Heading the DNC under a Democratic president is a functionary position - the president's team really runs it and the DNC Chair has very little power or say in anything. The DNC just follows orders. DNC Chair would be a major demotion for her.

(3,056 posts)Stacey is playing the long game. Changing the system from within. For her to be the one who closes the door on Trumpism would be a righteous ending.
Trump pisses off the GA SOS and Governor Kemp who oversaw his own election against Abrams while serving as SOS. Basically now Kemp and Stacey are the same to the Dotard. How the guy with his thumb on the scale is now against the guy who wants to kill the scale.

(1,300 posts)The guv seems to have been good and scummy until it came to actually breaking the law in plain (not Plains, GA) sight. I don't think we need to give him a whole lot o props for anything at this point other than wanting to be remembered as an actual sapiens. Which is not nothing, I admit. See turtle, et al.

(18,486 posts)They may all be wishing they had just let her win the governor's seat where she would have been too busy governing to have time to organize the kickiest of kickass grassroots movements that turned the entire state upside down and paved the way for their party's destruction.

(4,674 posts)be in the House, in the same way she didnt want to run for the Senate. She felt it wasnt in line with her skill set and interests which are more managerial, though she explained it far better of course. Governor really would be a better fit if she couldnt have an important cabinet assignment.
