George Carlin is a genius as far as I’m concerned. Personally I enjoy cursing and I defend its rightful place in literature and the English language in general. But not at the cost of losing sight of the wealth of other words and their rightful importance.

For my son I had the rule that he was not allowed to swear around adults. This included his teachers. Punishment in the form of being grounded was involved if this rule was broken. It gave him the freedom to use whatever language he wanted to with his peers.

The reason I did this was so he was forced to use correct language. So he would have a decent vocabulary. Unchecked fowl language can be used in the place of almost any other way of speaking. It stunts the growth of any decent and working vocabulary.
