Confused

On the one hand I keep hearing the republican party is going down - though rarely do I hear it explained what that means? Down insofar as dead, no one in it ? Or down as far as their ethics and morals?

Anyway...

And then I hear Republicans are about to steal power from Biden, or are uber powerful.

Can't jive these.

may undergo some radical change. We are looking at the GOP which has undergone significant deterioration and is a PR disaster due to Trump and his followers. Many mainstream GOPers no longer feel their party reflects their values. We see prominent republicans breaking away, become independents or even Democrats.

It is felt that Trump and his followers will continue to disrupt the party and the long term picture is not good.

At the same time, there is a coalition of GOP power in Congress which is ruthless and still welding a great deal of power.
They are desperate to hold onto power at any cost as they fear losses in future races.

I.e., Paul Mitchell. Others will eventually become Democrats. As we know, Steve Schmidt, not technically a politician, but used to speak for them, resigned the GOP and quite publically joined the Democratic Party. I think we will see this more and more.
