Whether it is that or vaccines, they are both at the top the list.

modern sewage treatment has proven to be a major boon to human health.

Although, it deals with making sewage microbes safe by "fermenting" raw sewage into a basic fertilizer.

Still, you make an intriguing argument.

people around the world and hundreds of millions of people in the US, their behavior indicates that they very much do not agree with that sentiment.

And when those people behave thusly, their religion and/or spirituality becomes everyone else's business. No matter how much we might wish it were not (I.e. no matter how much we wish they would have kept it to themselves in the first place).

but I'm sick of deferring science and facts to religion. Beliefs are not equal to facts.

I'm sick of "thoughts and prayers" spoken over action and results.

Please be respectful of my beliefs.

And I also have a small problem with adults who have invisible friends, somewhat worrisome... but they do have the right to believe as they choose and I have the right to doubt them. Their wonderful higher being has the power to stop this mess and chooses not to apparently.

And when smallpox was wiped out forever, it saves generations into the future.

There was also Norman Borlaug, another scientist (agronomist), who developed drought-resistant wheat, and is responsible for saving perhaps a billion lives into the future. Famines even in my early lifetime were often due to drought. Now most are just because of politics and warfare, still bad, but this wheat is pretty important.
