Releasing the details of a 5,000 page bill just a few hours before the scheduled vote, is not a good way to govern. It's more like a ransom demand than it is legislation.
And why does it include $500,000,000 for Israel? How is that related to a Covid stimulus bill?
How are our legislators supposed to make an informed decision on this bill if they are given two hours to read a 5,000+ page document? It's ridiculous. This is no way to govern a large nation. We should demand better from Congress.

(18,402 posts)Perhaps you were thinking of the Defense bill that was passed last week? But that doesn't match with the $500M you quoted.
The Senate on Friday passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for 2021, a massive bill which provides $740 billion in funding for a range of defense-related issues for the next fiscal year, including at least $3.3 billion that will go to Israel security assistance.
The Senate voted 84 to 13 in favor of the NDAA. The House passed the bill 335-78 on Tuesday.

(10,787 posts)So people are misreading, misreporting and misunderstanding what the bill is. Its not the stimulus bill, its the omnibus spending bill. So yes, money to Israel is included in the budget, just like COVID relief is.

(64,413 posts)The COVID bill is one chapter (so to speak) in an overall appropriations bill to free money for most discretionary spend through September 30, 2021.
