I always wanted a Kitchenaid mixer. Now? F*ck them!

I apologize if this has been posted already -

As Obama reminisced about his grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, who died shortly before Obama was elected president in 2008, the tweet appeared on KitchenAid's official Twitter account, @KitchenAidUSA: "Obamas gma even knew it was going 2 b bad! 'She died 3 days b4 he became president!"

The outrage was almost immediate, with angry Twitter users threatening to boycott the Benton Harbor, Mich., company.

The appliance maker, which is owned by Whirlpool Corp., quickly deleted the tweet. Cynthia Soledad, a KitchenAid marketing executive, issued a series of apologies via Twitter and Facebook.

"I would like to personally apologize to President @BarackObama, his family and everyone on Twitter for the offensive tweet sent earlier," she wrote. "It was carelessly sent in error by a member of our Twitter team who, needless to say, won't be tweeting for us anymore."

Soledad said in a separate statement that the employee meant to post the tweet on a personal account but mistakenly sent it instead through the corporate account. She referred to the tweet as a "tasteless joke."

http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-kitchenaid-twitter-debate-20121005,0,2815849.story

---------------

Tasteless joke? When did the death of a loved one become a joke, especially when it was about the woman who raised the President of the United States?

If anyone tweeted something like that in my name, they would be out the door.

One part of the job is to search twitter for mentions of their company, and answer the tweets if appropriate. I had Whole Foods do that will me a few weeks ago.

That's where I got my vintage KitchenAid for $40. While it has to be at least thirty years old it is in nearly new condition. The guy selling it had inherited his grandmother's house with all her belongings and had no use for a heavy duty mixer. I did have to go out and buy a dough hook for it, but it was still a bargain.

I've seen new in the box ones sold there, too but they go for more than I paid - probably were wedding presents that people didn't need or want.

Buying on Craigslist lets you get a KitchenAid without giving money to the company.

I know people who tweet for institutions. They're young, frequently lacking in maturity, and (like lots of people under 30) think everything they say and do deserves a trophy. I have no doubt the hammer came down hard on the tweeter, and the fear of God was put into the rest of the team.

Idiocy at the highest ranks of a company is one thing; but idiocy in the lowest ranks is simply the American way. My KitchenAid will be mixing up some delicious bread dough this weekend, same as always.

51. corporations stupidly outsource their social media to pay idiots... and then this shit happens.

And the RNC and other PACS have been paying people to blast anti-obama tweets, comments, etc, so no doubt the asshole they outsourced to, was ALSO doing RNC work, and realized they were logged into the wrong account.

I have a twitter account for my political stuff, and I do social media for a company I work for. One day I sent out a company tweet on the political page... it happens. Lucky it wasn't the other way around.

Corporations are STUPID in that they outsource the very FACE and VOICE of the company to people that have no biz representing them..

Could be they do it in-house. But I guarantee the person doing it is young and inexperienced in the ways of the working world.

55. I maintain the Twitter account...

for a business client of mine. I get no input from the client who, as far as I can tell, doesn't even know what Twitter is. I also have several Twitter accounts of my own, depending on the subject. So, I have one for politics. One night I was tweeting on my personal political account. And, trust me, I give those repugs hell. Then I logged out to make a tweet on the company account to announce a sale. I made that tweet and then went back to DU.

You can guess what happened next. I saw something on DU that I just had to comment on on Twitter. But I forgot to log out of the company account. Fortunately I realized very quickly what I had done and deleted the tweet. And at that point, not one month ago and after 6 years with the client, I didn't know his political leanings. Since then I have gotten a comment from the client, in response to the comment "shaking the bushes", that said: "we shook the Bushes, now we need to shake the Obamas".

So, it's easy when dealing with more than one account to post to the wrong one in haste or not paying attention to which account you're logged into. I got lucky. The KitchenAid guy/gal, not so much.

57. Actually, this sounds like less KitchenAid's fault than the employee.

I Tweet for my company and our account is limited to two users so this kind of crap doesn't happen. I completely keep my work Twitter and personal Twitter completely separate and NEVER consider blending the two to avoid anything like this.

Not sure if I'd retain or fire the employee in question, but, yes, this person would NEVER have access to the company account again.

It sounds like it was done by an idiot employee and they fired the person, or at least took them off their 'twitter team'.

The employee was punished. The company offered an apology.

What the heck more do you expect them to do?

His ass would be fired, and I would issue a ton of apologies. KitchenAid said this idiot won't be tweeting for them anymore. Companies make mistakes and they corrected this one, IMO. Hopefully this fool has been terminated, of course.

As it stands my choice is to accept KitchenAid being a victim of one low level punk fucking them up, or deciding there's nothing they could do to apologize enough, and decide to go buy from some place made in Mexico or China. Uh, no to the latter.

It's over a decade old anyway, and my prized kitchen appliance. No way I'm letting that baby go. It's worth it's substantial weight in gold to me!

I will think of this ass every time I'm whipping egg whites to a stiff peak though. I'll just pretend it's his hateful little ass being whipped into a froth!

Made in Japan in 1982 or thereabouts. Very heavy motor.

It holds six cups of flour and it rolls in a ball around the shaft. Take it out and put it in a bowl to rise; punch down and let it rise again in the loaf pan.

For mixing cakes, I have an old chrome-plated Sunbeam Mixmaster that works well. It was my mom's, made in the 1960s.

Find a good machine on ebay.

And it most likely would have been built long before this tweet was made.

Or, get a used Hobart at a restaurant supply store
