President Trump, in his final days, is turning bitterly on virtually every person around him, griping about anyone who refuses to indulge conspiracy theories or hopeless bids to overturn the election, several top officials tell Axios.
The latest: Targets of his outrage include Vice President Pence, chief of staff Mark Meadows, White House counsel Pat Cipollone, Secretary of State Pompeo and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
Why it matters: Trump thinks everyone around him is weak, stupid or disloyal and increasingly seeks comfort only in people who egg him on to overturn the election results. We cannot stress enough how unnerved Trump officials are by the conversations unfolding inside the White House.
Top officials are trying to stay away from the West Wing right now.
-snip-
Trump is fed up with Cipollone, his counsel. Some supporters of Cipollone are worried that Trump is on the brink of removing him and replacing him with a fringe loyalist.
A source who spoke to Trump said the president was complaining about Pence and brought up a Lincoln Project ad that claims that Pence is "backing away" from Trump. This ad has clearly got inside Trumps head, the source said.

On edit: I think this is the LP ad in question?

(162 posts)all the news commentators and media junkies and reporters need to stop referring to D Trump as "The President" - he is NOT! He is a pathetic, seditious, unstable fool. He is not the president nor a constitutional leader. He is a criminal in the White House.

They are following a WEAK CRYBABY.
He is the fat bully who stole all the younger kids lunch money - then the REAL STRONG Kids walloped his bullying ass in front of the whole schoolyard.
Now he is sitting in the corner crying and pouting.
What a weakling.
Who the fuck wants to follow a crybaby wannabe?
Wake up, Joe and Jane Sixpack - you are not following the popular kids anymore and YOU are the fucking loser crybabies in the schoolyard. Dumbasses. Fuck You all!

Sure, they're living in #DiaperDon's head rent-free right now, but he's a symptom of the chronic infection that has spread through the right. The LP needs to keep up the assault against the current GOP.
Yeah, I know: there are some out there -- possibly including my next-door neighbors -- who will send a check to sham "campaign." Let 'em. Fools and their money...

(21,447 posts)as the Allied armies reach Berlin.
The film version of Herman Wouk's War and Remembrance shows Hitler screaming at top aides and generals, denouncing the ones who say the war is over, and ordering the military and civilians to keep fighting, to protect Berlin for a comeback because they will win if only the people just keep fighting.
They all end up the same - paranoid, deserted, and screaming about disloyalty.

But Trump isn't Hitler.
He is a coward and will never physically harm himself. His M.O. has always been to hurt other people.

(21,447 posts)backing out to escape facing his defeaters?
He did go through the rants and insane orders to keep fighting. He never acknowledged his own failures. He blamed everyone around him right to the end. And then played the role of martyr.
Trump is not likely to take that route. He will continue to spin himself as the perpetual victim of fraud.

(59,584 posts)Because, you see, the German people had failed him, and deserved death for doing so.
The outcome of the war was their fault (certainly not his!), so everything - power stations, sewers, bridges, railroad yards, roads, phone networks - all were to be destroyed.
The Germans were unworthy of his vision and courage, and so were to be punished for generations.
I can see that in Shitstain's handling of the vaccine, and much more besides. It's our fault (certainly not his!) that things went to shit, so we deserve it for failing his glorious genius.

(2,690 posts)There was certainly nothing heroic about it, or about anything he did in his life. Still, it takes some courage to put a bullet in your head and face the dread of something after Death that Hamlet whines about. Of course in Hitler's case, suicide seemed preferable to the kind of horrible tortures to which he assumed the allies would subject him -- because, of course, he assumed the allies would treat him as he would have treated them had the shoe been on the other foot.
Trump on the other hand has no such resolve. He will die, however, when brought to trial after his de-throning. His health will waste away and by the time verdicts are delivered for his massive crimes against America and the American people, he'll look more a shriveled mummy than the bloated, incontinent Chosen One of God his people drool over and worship. The result will possiblyl die before being sentencing or, living, his health will be so poor that he will be confined to a nursing home, under guard and with his freedom of movement restricted by an ankle bracelet. (I'd take it further and deprive him of the internet and TV, but permit him to take a book or magazine out of the Home's library. He'll not be interested, of course, but it would be a nice touch to leave as his only source of entertainment the riches of a culture he can never appreciate, and books and magazines he will never have interest in reading. Of course, it would be a sure sign that there is a God, after all, if he were allowed an occasional Zoom conference with his sons and son-in-law, and his number 1 daughter who would be speaking with him from their individual prison cells.)
wnylib
(21,447 posts)of his suicide. First, he married Eva Braun. Then he ranted instructions about Germany to those of his inner circle who remained. He gave precise directions on how to dispose of his and Eva's remains. Then they took poison.
I don't see an ounce of courage in his suicide. I see a man so afraid of admitting defeat that death was preferrable. Fear and arrogance motivated him. "You can't defeat me because I die as a winner, without ever surrendering to you."

(10,167 posts)Wouldn't it be sweet if Pence just left him twisting in the wind, waiting for a pardon that never comes.
RVN VET71
(2,690 posts)Trump could insist that Pence and "Mother" meet with him on television and promise, under God's own witness, to pardon Trump after Trump, by resigning, transfers the baton of the presidency to Pence.
Pence would claim to be doing it for the good of the country and because Jesus spoke to him. But having made a public pledge, it would be difficult for him to retire from political life (effective January 20, 2021) with any semblance of integrity were he to renege on that pledge. But, as I think of it, Pence could have it both ways by issuing the pardon but observing that 1: "Of course, this pardon does not free Mr. Trump of being held to criminal account by the state of New York for the many crimes he and his family stand accused of committing there. Nor does it apply to any Federal crimes he may commit after the issuance of this blanket pardon" and 2: "I issue this parson solely in the interests of the nation and not because I find any justification for the Federal crimes Mr. Trump stands accused of having committed."
Just a thought or two. My tuppence, if I may.

(7,968 posts)suicide would show some level or recognition of the situation. I believe that suicide is a more honorable solution in this situation than tRump is capable of.
Nevertheless, the possiblity of this is yet another reason why Joe Biden may be our 47th president and not our 46th.

(21,447 posts)as honorable suicide, but this would not be one of them.
When someone trashes a nation that later rejects or defeats him, suicide is an arrogant ego move. "I remain undefeated. You cannot reach or conquer me now. I am a hero even in death."

(10,252 posts)We Buddhists believe that when we die, the only thing that we take with us is our mind. An angry, hateful mind is likely to land someone in Hell in the next life, because that is what Hell is all about -- anger, hatred, cruelty, vengance, sadistic punishment, and great suffering for a very long time -- eons. Hell is not so much a physical place, as it is a mental state.
It would be so easy for Trump to pop out of his private Hell, by simply accepting reality and with good humor and decency walking away from his delusion that he is entitled to be POTUS forever. But noooo. He has spent a lifetime cultivating anger and hostility. It is an entrenched and unmindful mental habit. He has done noihing to train his mind to drop hatred and think about what might benefit others. He has done nothing to practice self-discipline to not speak angry words. And so, the karma of his anger and hatred ripens.
For me, Trump is a lesson in the importance of practicing loving kindness and self-discipline, rather than cultivating selfishness and anger. I almost feel sorry for him. Maybe when he is in prison, he will have the good fortune to hear advice from a wise and kind person. But I doubt that he is ready to hear and accept that he himself made his very own Hell.

(18,536 posts)let's understand that we're dealing with someone's who's lost it completely . . . as he continues to cull his herd of yes-men, he's finding himself more and more isolated and alone in his fantasy world, where the election was stolen because "there is no way I lost to Joe Biden!" . . . what's really scary is that he really believes it! . . . and anyone who doesn't believe it is a traitor, not to the country, but to Donald J. Trump . . . and to Donald J. Trump, that's all that matters . . .
so while it's good that even his strongest supporters are choosing to leave his fantasy world and re-enter reality, it's creating a lonely, desperate "man" who's capable of just about anything to get his way . . . this next month is going to be the most dangerous time in his presidency -- and that's saying something, given what the past 47 months have been . . . we can only hope (and trust ) that cooler heads will prevail and prevent him from doing something irreversible . . . and that our sane military leaders will prevent him from using the armed forces in service of his petty personal objectives . . .
if you're religious, say a few prayers . . . if you're spiritual, send out positive thoughts and good vibes . . . if you're a humanist, trust in your fellow men (and women) to do the right thing when it really counts . . .
and if you're a fatalist, just kiss your ass goodbye . . .
