Well played Nancy, indeed- excellent chess move

Mitch, after much agony, says "O.K., give the suffering America citizens $600"

Trump screwing with Mitch and trying to keep his base, "No, I want them to get $2,000" (knowing it'll never happen but making him look good and knowing it will cast Mitch into a Xmas Scrooge fit.

Nancy - "Great, let's go for the 2 grand. We Democrats are all for it"
Steals Trumps grandstanding
Put Mitch on the hot-seat
Scores points against the Repukes

about how necessary the extra money must be! They break it down for these self serving repuke bastards who are NOT HELPING Americans!

Where the hell did these freaks go to school? Even I took Econ 101 and learned about why stimulus money is needed for the poorer people: they SPEND it faster on necessities and their spending goes up the chain of our economy. The rich just buy back their stock to further enrich themselves.

This is one time I don't envy my European friends. They have the Euro which individual countries don't control. We have our own currency which we can print (I know that's simplistic but I am not Paul Krugman who can explain it better than I can).

it is the American people who have been checkmated by the Republicans.

I think about the $600 and worry. It isn't enough.

I will not be getting it and I'm happy about that - I don't need it. But many many Americans, some whom I know absolutely do!

I guess if the Dems in Congress can't find a way to help people materially, having them as props in a gambit that will have less concrete advantages isn't THAT bad. I'd like to think it's not a cynical move, but my compass has been knocked askew.

They demand that Pelosi and the Democrats talks tougher and "scream bloody murder" and when it's pointed out to them that that usually won't achieve any actual results, we're told it doesn't matter - they need to say it anyway because " words matter."

But now that they're saying something , some of the same folks come back and attack them for that, claiming "those are just words - they don't make any difference."

I'm starting to think that some people aren't really interested in results, but just want to complain and criticize, no matter what the speaker and the Democrats do.

Kicking Mitch in the keester might be fun, but people are genuinely suffering. People aren't going to see that kind of money.

Letting it be known the Democratic Party has been fighting for this all along, and the Republicans would have none of it will hopefully be a longer term theme in the news. Once we get the clown act out of the news cycle maybe there is a chance to start shifting the dial back to what benefits the 99%.

I realize the gamesmanship is part of that process... and I am glad Madame Speaker is so good at it... but count me as one of the Americans sick of the need for it....

this is a fight to get more for the American people. She is not playing political games here, she is doing her job. It's others who like to frame the battles as ONLY political chess games. It's not...dems are ALWAYS asked to be the adults and govern, to clean up messes. GOPrs are ALWAYS the ones with the games, deceipt, propaganda, power grags for power's sake. And they are good at it...unfortunately for everyone

And totally agree. We need people who can beat the Republicans at their games and then get something productive done. Until the R's stop with the games this will be the case. I can't remember the last time we had a Republican party that was serious about serving America. I am late 70's. They seem to be lost the whole time and getting worse.

is the GA election. And that is almost as critical is the presidency. If the GOP loses the GA election the 5th then they are emasculated, and maybe for ever. This is why Mitch is really scared. Now, the only way Mitch can save his ass and the GOP, is to approve the $2k payout. He is for sure between a rock and hard place. If he refuses people will be out with the figurative tar and feathers for him. If he approves then he will have caved for Don and the Dems, and that will make his supporters mad, especially with Pelosi backing the 2K.
Face it - Don just blew up the GOP and made stew out of the turtle.

If he were human, had a conscious and a heart that might work. But, he's not, he's a vile, calculating partisan who knows how to manipulate the system to benefit his agenda. Also, McConnell is a truly heartless bastard trying to preemptively destroy our economy, and by extension Biden and Harris, to leverage the GOP into a stronger position in 2022 and 2024. Be damned the rest of us, our pain, our real suffering or our loss. They're meaningless to him, we're not even collateral damage. He knows the Republicans will support blaming it all on the Democratic Party with impunity to the GOP.

I get your being upset. Without the Senate and the House we can't fix anything. Unless we get some support from the moderate Republicans (of which there are what? 1 to 3 in the Senate, depending on the bill and which way the wind blows) we are kneecapped in what we can do under McConnell.

We need the Senate, desperately. Which is what we're all hoping for here. If this gives us an edge, even a tiny one, it's good.
