Cancel culture?

So, who started this term and does it annoy anyone else like it annoys me? I feel it’s taken on a life of it’s own that’s not correct. Kind of like “defund the police”. Who started the cancel culture term? Half the time I’m not sure what it really means.

That people don’t want to be held accountable for the deplorable shit they say or do so they invent that term to deflect....it has become the new ‘politically correct’

But it goes back further to the Gamergate scandal. That I believe was the turning point for America's descent into the abyss when people just let out their inner asshole and were proud of it:

There's no actual direct origin story of the term "cancel culture" though I would assume South Park is involved somehow:

but I absolutely despise "virtue signalling."

The right loves to label any gesture or words that show empathy for fellow human beings as "virtue signalling," like it's something to be ashamed of.

Unbelievable!

how cancel culture goes too far when what they are really angry about is people calling them out on their fucked up behavior like supporting a piece of shit like Trump .

The biggest whiners about it are also the biggest jerks. They have thin-skin and can't handle being criticized, just like Trump. Trump has whined about cancel culture a lot, but has also openly advocated literally canceling people just as much. They're all like this.

It's usually from racists, homophobes, transphobes, far-right Nazi crybabies, and Trump cultists. They're just like Trump - they freak out and curl up into a ball if they receive any criticism.

Like when college students protest against some provocative or controversial figure (think Milo Y.) and get their appearance canceled. I get his point but sometimes these speakers are so deplorable it's hard for me to agree with giving them a platform to spew their divisive crap. I get the free speech thing but then I also agree with the free speech of those who protest.
