Christmas Eve morning early libations thoughts--- upon reading Facebook comments....

I poured bourbon in my coffee this morning. I am spending the day wrapping- cleaning.....just messing around the house.

Sitting there reading Facebook, and some stuff on DU--- I realized one thing I am tired of- sick of-- done with: the word "progressive" bandied about as if it is somehow a bad thing.

So, I have decided to start calling Republicans "Regressives."

It's so much more polite than "Repukes," or "dumbfucks." Doesn't "Regressive" sound better than "Shitforbrains?"

Well, I think so.

I hope everyone is having a calm day- and looking forward to a happier New Year. I know there are so many suffering right now, and I am thinking of them- and those on DU. I have been reading DU since the day I saw the banner at GWB's inauguration (the banner and that glorious egg!!)--- married a DUer that I met here.

Cheers!

But they're all like those business clowns who paid $2,000 for a bottle of wine at dinner, praised its bouquet and flavored nuances while congratulating each other on their superiority -- only to be told by an embarrassed manager that they'd be served up with a $40 bottle by mistake.

In other words, these fools buy culture that they have no sensitivity to actually appreciate -- but, oh my, do they love to smugly show it off, pretentiously.

I remember the conversations at my family's dinner table when I was 15 were way-to-often about a little known far away land called Viet Nam. For all the points of contention and explanation it still burns into me that things like the Viet Nam war and Donald Trump's ascendance are simply examples of the obvious. There is evil in the world. When evil is up, everything looks like it will never get better. When it's down, it seems like nothing can be wrong. So profound is the nature of adult humans to live in their chosen delusion that when a simple observation reveals the plain fact that about half of us don't know which way is up it's always the other side which is in error.

My Great Grandmother, whom I adored more than words can process, was a close friend of Senator Sam Ervin. I well remember him saying "Stephnee- Go pour me a drink!"

I loved her so much- and my memories of Sam Ervin are strictly from a childhood in Morganton, NC-- all of those folks are gone now.

But, "over our heads?" I really need you to explain that crap.

3rd hand- I am 56 years old. I knew all of my grandparents, and many of my greats well; Growing up, we had a picture of my great-something or other (there are still folks in the family named after him) that was captured. My grandparents had a sword on the wall in the den.

These new toe-licker Republicans would love being called that. They have no goddamned idea that an entire portion of the country was burnt down. They are stupid fuckwits that failed history.

That moniker excites the rednecks- they love it.

I've been using and advocating that word for several years now. They are absolutely NOT "conservatives." There is little they want to conserve. They want to drag the world back to...when? Probably a piecemeal society. Family units from 50's TV. An economy from the same era. Strappin' on yer shootin' iron and swaggering downtown, heading for the OK Corral.

And "progressive" and "liberal" are fine appellations. As JFK said, wear it proudly. OK, he didn't actually say that, but that was the gist of it.

All the best to you and yours!
