When he first went on national radio in 1988, he was mildly amusing. A terrible replacement for the Owen Span Show I used to listen to, but not that bad either with his "Gorbasms" and the like.

Nobody I've talked to remembers this, but I saw an interview with him shortly afterwards in which he admitted it was all just an act designed to outrage and get ratings.

It's possible he started believing his own nonsense but ultimately, he's always struck me as a sad figure.
