With the holidays around the corner, GoDaddy employees received an email last week offering some welcome financial relief: a $650 holiday bonus.
Two days later, they received another email from GoDaddy:
You failed our recent phishing test.
GoDaddy Employees Were Told They Were Getting a Holiday Bonus. It Was Actually a Phishing Test.
Roughly 500 employees failed the test, which claimed they would receive a $650 bonus in lieu of a holiday party.

This move comes as thousands of Arizonans are unemployed or experiencing financial anxiety amid the pandemic.
Employees at GoDaddy are no exception. Earlier this year the company laid off or reassigned hundreds of people in Arizona, Iowa and Texas.

(93,900 posts)Shouldn't the prank be the other way around ? They think they are getting something not that great but end up with something much better ?

(77,274 posts)So, this isn't one person's idiotic idea. It must be something network administrators discuss.
Tribune Company did it, with offers of 5,000-10,000 bonuses. 5 to 10 grand! And they didn't think people would click it when it looked semi-official?
The test itself is a stupid test, despite the tone deaf nature of it. There's no good time or good year to tease people about having earned extra money.
It's not a Nigerian prince scenario.
Just dumb.

If I were an employee, Id keep my head down and collect whatever paltry paycheck theyve got, check for new jobs from my own computer (anything not connected to the job), and one fine day depart without so much as a go to hell.

Fuck both of them for this unnecessary cruelty.
