(6,760 posts)Due to serious health concerns, I have been in self quarantine for 9+ months, and will continue that self quarantine for at least another 6 months or so. Most of my family has gone back to some form of family celebration by following coronavirus guidelines. Most family units have mask wearing in their homes with some form of social distancing during their get-togethers. I need to be satisfied with phone calls, on-line contacts, cards, etc. I have a quarantine life style that hopfully will allow me to be present at future family gatherings. Stay safe, stay healthy, and Merry Christmas!

(10,484 posts)for anyone who gives a sh*t about others.
All those people who call themselves pro-life, who pretended to care about lives lost in Benghazi or on 911 don't have a problem with 3,000 of their fellow Ameticans a day dying. They only pretend to care when they can use it for political gain.

(12,217 posts)A very warm greeting to you and yours, along with everyone here.
I think it's also worth saying that the life of that "someone" you save may be your own.

Happy Holidays, kpete. Thank you for this message. All of my family has passed.

(49,930 posts)I live in L.A. County right on the border of Orange County, so I've been pissed off ever since certain people decide going to the beach was more important than saving lives. Fucking selfish idiots.
But Merry Xmas, yay!!!!

(10,484 posts)because it's outdoors and with ocean breezes, nasty airborne droplets are dispersed away from people. I don't really understand it, because in a way I wonder why the moving air doesn't spread them more, but I'll believe the scientists on this.
My sibliings and mother are violating state regulations and gathering inside her condo. My husband is visiting his brother who is home detween chemo treatments and would otherwise be alone. Just the two of them and they'll distance & wear masks.
He couldn't bear to not go there. And I couldn't bring myself to go anywhere. So, here I am, pretending it's just another day.

(100,133 posts)Too many people/family we know think its over and claim that we just need to get comfortable with it. I reply that science doesnt work that way, and Ive heard intubation is never comfortable.
Stay safe everyone! Merry Christmas! 🎄

Doing my best to avoid catching the 'rona or spreading it. These holidays have sucked, but it's okay. Some things are more important than momentary pleasure.
*Had my aortic valve replaced 2 years ago. It was... not fun, but necessary, and the results have been great.

(132,483 posts)I generally spend holidays (Easter, T-day, etc) with friends at their open house. But we have not been together since March, because non of us want to risk anyone. It is worth it.

(13,435 posts)talk about how they are having to put up with their MAGA relatives who have come into town for the holidays and I have a difficult time restraining myself from saying WHY??? This is the one year you should not have to be subjected because they should not be coming in from out of town and gathering. Why are you there??

(14,782 posts)Today, I'm grateful me and my adult kids are reasonably healthy and that I was able to get my flu and pneumonia shots. We have some food and have some bird seed for our wildlife friends.
And, in six more days we can be grateful for surviving 2020.
Thanks for posting, KPete........

(7,541 posts)you are better off. This is not the year for it.
My sister who we see often anyway, arrived just before snow yesterday. They predicted 1'5", we got 5.5". We lost power for about 4 hours last night but stayed warm.
Today it is beautiful, sunny and in the 20s.
We rarely have a white Christmas in East TN. but then this is an unusual year.
My husband went out to check on the outdoor wood burning furnace last night at 10:45 when the power came back on...he came in talking about "Dr. Zhivago". I saw why this morning....everything covered in snow...everything.

(11,164 posts)Which I am that as well. I am sad because there will be more deaths due to stupid idiots, yet I am still here wasting time and resources. Maybe... maybe... I will get lucky and my nightmare will be over soon enough. It amazes me that some people are pretty much ready to leave this world but we are seen as needing help, when the real help needed is for those who have a full life ahead of them, yet are in danger due to covidiots. I see no reason to think that the rational folks in this country will be able to do anything about this, as we have had more than enough need for rationality going back decades and still nothing.
Sorry... the only place I blow smoke is up in the air...

(13,428 posts)I cooked my usual Christmas Eve dinner but there were only three of us around the table this year. I packed up and delivered dinners for parents and my son's household. We opened gifts together virtually on Christmas morning.
Last night my mom told me that one of my nieces and her hubby are insisting on an in-person visit this weekend. My parents are elderly with significant medical issues. The niece works in a doctor's office and her SO is an EMT. Mom said she tried to discourage the visit but my niece kept insisting they were both "fine". I told her it is her right to say no, but I think the visit is going to happen.
I am FURIOUS.
