Law enforcement officials said in a midday news conference that a recorded announcement emanating from the RV warned people to evacuate the area in the minutes leading up to the blast.
In a video posted on social media, which the Washington Post has not independently verified, a voice can be heard saying, This area must be evacuated now. If you can hear this message, evacuate now. That was followed by the sounds of an explosion, and the video of the street scene turned to a blur.

(17,263 posts)The target was likely the AT&T building which happens to be the tallest building in Tennessee. The RV, which was broadcasting a warning message right before the explosion, was parked in front of their building and the building has some sustained some serious damage including a black blast mark. Other shops and commercial buildings also sustained serious damage from the blast along with cars parked nearby and many buildings within a few block radius had their windows blown out. My gut is saying trump supporters did this but there's no proof of that yet. The investigation within the coming days and weeks should provide at least some answers

(18,714 posts)For those not familiar, 2nd and Commerce is just up from one of the busiest tourist areas in downtown. While the AT&T building may have been the target, if this had occurred on an average weekend or during an event, there would have been tons of foot traffic in the area. Opposite the AT&T building, is a multistory parking garage I frequently use when I go downtown and there are several restaurants and bars near that intersection that would likely have been packed with people.

(17,263 posts)It's sounds like it could've been even worse than I imagined. I'm not very familiar with the area. As a teenager I visited the The Grand Old Opry once but mostly I've just passed through the city to get to and from Florida.

Early Christmas morning was chosen to also minimize the people on the streets and in the shops.
If someone wanted to terrorize, just give 10 seconds, so people know it's coming and can't do anything about it.

(17,263 posts)They don't usually warn people ahead of time. I have my theory about who's responsible but there's no proof as of yet. Who ever it ends up being, my moneys on it being a homegrown attack.
