Is that how people said it when you were growing up? I lived in the south for awhile years ago and a lot of people there dropped certain consonants like the "t" in important, but until then, I don't recall hearing it said that way. Now I hear it on TV fairly frequently.

33. I've been known to accidentally mispronounce

some uncommon words that I wasn't familiar with, but I had some really strict English teachers that would have never let me get away with "impordent". I frequently go online to check the pronunciation of some words, especially when I hear someone on TV say it differently. "Oh my god, have I been pronouncing it wrong all these years?"

I can't imagine mispronouncing words to be edgy or individualistic. What a bizarre concept.
