It can create chronic issues. Immunity might not last longer than a few months either. So maybe you don't die the first time around. Maybe you just get vascular issues, maybe coronary, maybe pulmonary. You catch it again eight months later and it's rougher. Then rougher still the next go round.

My wife's extended family of right wingers filled up their social media pages with multiple-household, maskless gatherings for Christmas. They just don't care, like many, many of the white Republicans around us.

Have gotten very sick or unknowingly passed it on to relatives more at risk?

The purpose of the masks, social distancing, etc., is to protect others, not just ourselves.

hospitalized. She was on a vent for over a week. She survived, but was left with cognitive problems and breathing issues. The friend of an acquaintance lost her 12 year old son to Covid. She was told to put him to bed and keep him quiet and resting. He never woke up. My friend in her late sixties had serious symptoms but recovered at home with no ill effects. That's the trouble with this virus; it's capricious. You never know how it's going to affect YOU. It's like playing Russian roulette.

Long-Term Effects of COVID-19
Updated Nov. 13, 2020

CDC is actively working to learn more about the whole range of short- and long-term health effects associated with COVID-19. As the pandemic unfolds, we are learning that many organs besides the lungs are affected by COVID-19 and there are many ways the infection can affect someone’s health.

While most persons with COVID-19 recover and return to normal health, some patients can have symptoms that can last for weeks or even months after recovery from acute illness. Even people who are not hospitalized and who have mild illness can experience persistent or late symptoms. Multi-year studies are underway to further investigate. CDC continues to work to identify how common these symptoms are, who is most likely to get them, and whether these symptoms eventually resolve.

Lists of symptoms at the link:

and some die.

I wonder why the effects vary so widely among people? I would think it would affect everyone about the same.

There is some evidence that having had cold-causing coronaviruses results in milder cases.

Diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular distease, etc. increase risk.

They have identified genes associated with greater risk.

So if 100% of the population had Covid 19, you might expect that 1% of the population would have died.

But at that disease intensity, there would not be ICU care for most, so the death rate would be double or triple, say 2 to 3%, or 6 to 10 million.

Uncontrolled, it would have been about twice as bad as the 1918 influenza epidemic, except that then the deaths were mostly young adults rather than people over 60.

It would have been a lot like the collapse of the Soviet Union, when large numbers of pensioners died, including many of the surviving WW II veterans.

Young athletes have described it as the worst illness they ever faced. There are long term effects which we will know more about in the future.

I may be crazy for being scared of this pandemic but at least I haven't caught the virus yet thanks to living safely as much as I can.

does not affect many, many will continue to live in ignorance or because of a lie from their fuhrer. Him recovering so quickly gave the impression that this lethal pandemic is not that lethal. Not that he may have been faking it to further his lie that it was no worse than the flu nor that if he did have a light brush with Covid, that he had world-class physicians and medicine

This mass murderer needs to end up standing in the court docket at the Hague.

Some people take more risks and feel less social responsibility. In a nation that lionizes Individual Rights above all else, this is unsurprising.

The current surge is so great that I'm not sure those 1.1 million trips will make the situation noticeably worse.
