What do people think of the idea of Harris taking the oath at the Lincoln Memorial...?

...I got this idea from SF writer David Brin. It would be a harkening back to MLK, and Lincoln himself, almost a benediction from them. It would spread out the crowd for the inauguration--which *will* be there--and make distancing easier. And it would separate Harris and Biden, which for simple security reasons might not be a bad thing. Think of Michigan; think of Nashville. Does anyone think the idea has merit?

around the edges of the Reflecting Pool. There’s way more room for spacing on the huge, grassy part of the Mall.

America needs to see a solid team, both of them together with their families.

Later Kamala could go to the LM and Joe can go visit Beau's gravesite.

I do like that metaphor of Kamala and LM but not in the way described.

before she was tapped as Biden's running mate, called her too ambitious and having her inaugural at the Lincoln Memorial could be viewed as a "look at me, I'm special" episode that would play right into their earlier criticisms.

There are times when groundbreakers need to do things differently. There are other times when they need to do it just like everyone else to show the world that while they may be the first, they are not all that different. That's how people begin to accept pioneers as one of them.

There are times to stand out and times to fit right in. This is one of those times to fit right in.

I would think the Lincoln Memorial would be much harder to secure than the Capitol.

because of being at war. No parade either.

So there is precedent for a very scaled down inauguration.

And no, at the Lincoln Memorial is not a good idea. With all due respect to David Brin.

FDR was extremely sick and dying with just 3 months to live and everyone around him knew it. No way there could be a parade. But I agree the inauguration could be scaled down if they want that.
