Trump May Have Violated Copyright Law to Congratulate Himself for Nobel Prize He Didn't Win

Donald Trump shared a video late Monday that appears to attempt an awkwardly self-congratulatory montage of Trump’s accomplishments. The video didn’t just tout a prize that was never awarded, it may have violated intellectual property law when doing so.

Forty-two seconds in, the caption “Trump stands for peace” fills the screen; next, the video shows Trump, standing alongside other dignitaries, proudly displaying a document, all while the Nobel Prize graphic plays in the corner.

A casual observer might well take the images to mean that Trump won the Nobel Peace Prize. Trump did no such thing. Apart from the obvious issue there, there are a couple of potential legal problems with Trump’s video.

First, there’s the potentially unauthorized use of the Nobel Prize image.

I hope it costs him thousands of dollars out of his own empty pockets, so he has to go to his rabid followers to help him write the check.

They get away with murder. They have to shell out some when they get sued, maybe, but they don't pay for any of the serious shit they do. The law apparently doesn't apply to a Trump.

They are in blatant violation of their copyright, and even if they did obtain permission (which I am 100% certain they did not) they didn't give the proper credit.

I hope that the Nobel Foundation sues his massive pants off.

I've filed a report letting them know that Donald J. Trump is improperly using images of their copyrighted material. I included a link to the Tweet (
).

It's a VERY easy form to use.

I'm sure that they would appreciate hearing from others about this misuse of their copyrighted material.
