I recommend reading the Tweet thread but she is the best commentator I have seen on Twitter when it comes to tech legal issues.

(9,657 posts)The house sent stand alone legislation on the two grand
If had overwhelming bi partisan support
We need a vote on that before we override the defense veto
If mitch wants to suck up to trump on 230 he can have a stand alone bill written and build support the old fashioned way, by earning it on merit
But time is quickly running out on the session for the house to pass the modified bill. So its a typical McConnell dirty trick poison pill

(3,282 posts)who suffers the most if 230 were repealed?
Republicans.
They are the ones who have weaponized the internet with misinformation, lies, conspiracies, etc. They use social media and sites like Brietbart to spread these things far and wide. Does anyone think Trump gets elected in 2016 without their internet web of misinformation?
So please, go ahead and shut it all down. Turn off the alt-rights ability to radicalize and recruit people. Stop them from being able to upload to YouTube and FaceBook. Stop Qanon from being able to tweet or whatever you call it on Parler.
One actual great change to 230 would be to require that websites that allow user-driven content to collect verified information on every user including their name, address, etc and require proof that they are how they say they are. That would make people actually responsible for the things they post.
